Travel To The Philippines Remains Safe and Secure

Despite the country remaining on a state of national emergency, the Department of Tourism assures visitors that travel to the Philippines is still safe and secure:

Travel to the Philippines remains safe and secure. Primary tourist destinations in Metro Manila, Cebu, Bohol, Palawan, Boracay and the rest of the country are undisturbed.

As of Monday, 27 February 2006, business operations in the Philippines remain normal. The Philippine Department of Tourism, together with law enforcement agencies, continues to monitor all activities within the tourist destinations. No major cancellations of groups traveling to the islands have been reported.

So far, so good. Let’s hope that the state of emergency will be lifted soon. Everybody can then breathe a sigh of relief, especially me, whose trip to the country is imminent.

I have been to Manila, Cebu, Bohol, Mindanao (Butuan City) and Camiguin Island and not at any time did I feel in danger.

Most of the shopping malls have guards at the door and there can be some armed forces driving around during festivals, but I have never felt in danger while in The Philippines and I have been there 4 times in the last two years.

Security is noticeable in most places I have been and enjoyed myself and felt safe. The biggest common daily threat is pocket picking and street kids asking for money but they are more of an annoyance than a danger.
