The winning tribes in this year’s Dinagyang competition Tribu Ilonganon of Jalandoni Memorial National High School and Tribu Kahilwayan of the Sta. Barbara National Comprehensive High School are all set for the Aliwan Fiesta in Manila.
They are going to have a send off party this Friiday at Iloilo Freedom Grandstand. The street leading to the grandstand will be closed for the said send off party.
Iloilo will also field a giant float made of indigenous materials carrying a “big warrior” in full Dinagyang costume of the native Atis during Aliwan Fiesta.
Cara Jeanne Sullano will vie for the Reyna ng Aliwan Beauty Contest.
Dinagyang souvenir items, like Dagoy key chains, Ilonggo delicacies, T-shirts and others, will be exhibited for sale at the Aliwan Bazaar.

This year Aliwan Fiesta, Dinagyang will show the following performance :
Tribu Ilonganon will depict on how the “primitive ati” will dress up for the modernization. The tribe performers will show skills on how to put their skirt, headband and vest. The choreographer made a twist from its last year’s presentation.
Tribu Kahilwayan will stick on their Cry of Sta. Barbara portrayal with all the stunts they have shown in its previous presentations. The choreographer infused some dance in the depiction of the Cry of Sta. Barbara.

Nagsend-off party last Friday ang mga Dinagyang contingents sa Iloilo Freedom Grandstand for this year Aliwan Fiesta. You can watch the sneak preview of Dinagyang contingents (Kahilwayan and Ilonganon) performance for Aliwan sa “YouTube”.
Just search in YouTube “Aliwan Dinagyang”. Makikita mo na ‘yong initial performance ng Tribu Ilonganon at Kahilwayan, hindi buong performance ‘yon para sa Aliwan sample palang.

i would like to comment regarding sa ALIWAN 2007 bakit kaya ang kaunti nang contigents na sumali siguro this is because of ELECTION. bakit ang taga Bacolod wala pa rin sa competition at yung Camiguin na First runner up sa SINULOG ng CEBU.

awts… nakakasawa ang waves… paulit ulit lang talaga ang choregraphy, i was expecting more… hindi pa rin sila deserving… im betting for alikaraw! wala… recycle tralaga ang choreography ng sinulog… tinanggal lang yung walis, nag wave na naman ulit! hay… don’t fret, i have evidence na umulit lang yung waves, walang bago! nakakasawa na talaga ang waves, pati costume eh, wala lang… dinagdagan lang ng chaleco at bahag, ganun pa rin, akala ko ba nanalo sila sa sinulog?!? bat tinipid ang costume?!? sucks talaga!

“Marvin kim” the ilonggo conqueror! hehehe tapos na ang boksing pare or mare..Just want to tell you that all the winners are deserving but i just point out about the recycled choreography of the champions “Lumad of cebu” i think its unfair to say that, because for me its their trademark esp the kind of costume.. Just like your ilo ilo troupe bat may hagdan ba talaga sa likod pag dinagyang?? di ba trademark din yan? yong mga steppings nyo tell me honestly, unique ba talaga yan..bat nakikita ko yan sa ibang contingent sa dinagyang?Bat may pbc pipe sa instrumentalists? di ba only in dinagyang yan? yong pagpalit ng costume habang sumasayaw di ba ginawa na yan nang bayanihan dancers..yong apat na bakla na colorful ang costume, i saw that presentation a couple of times.So the important thing is execution and the showmanship.Just accept the result and go with our lives..okdoki? Now your betting on my hometown alikaraw kasi sila ung bago na sumali,heheheh if they will win next year and then almost the same choreograhy ur complaining na naman..tsk, tsk, tsk..ano ba talaga ang nasa mga bisaya na wala sa ilonggo?? wala pareho lang tayo pero lets face the results and accept it.

Why is it so hard for some Dinagyang fans to accept who won the last 2 years in Aliwan? Why do they have to brag their winnings years before kesyo they won grand champion ek ek. For the record, the won top prize before Lumad Basakanon of Cebu came in last year and they’ve been telling us all along in the internet that they will be champion this year. Now where are they? Just be realistic, just review and compare Lumad and your representative and see it from there objectively.
Congrats to Lumad ninyo tanan. Kinsa kaila Marc Jun Ricafort? apil pa ba sya ana inyo grupo?

oh sorry… im not crying a river… i even pity you guys because of the secret i have known just a few hours ago… i wonder if that secret would be told, and publicized.. it would be a VERY VERY VERY HARD SLAP on the faces of the contingents of sinulog… i’ll just keep it to myself anyway… if i’ll say it here, parang lalabas pa akong uhaw sa panalo.
oa ba yung send off?!? duh… mas oa nga kayo, eh ka simple simple ng sayaw eh, “mahirap daw pero sabay sabay!” oh come on! meron nga kayong elementary dancers eh, tsk tsk tsk! nakakabagot manood… walang ka taste taste ang sayaw… at now, masasabi ko na kung alin ang mas field demo ang dating… sino kaya yung takbo ng takbo na parang mga hinahabol ng asong ulol?!? para nyo na ring ginawang sinulog yung aliwan which definitely not! hindi ito field demo, cultural presentation po ito…

the costume, i see no relevance to the performance of lumad… really, as i was listening to their performace concept, parang hinde naman yata ganun.. just refresh me with their concept… no, not all risers in dinagyang have stairs darling, it all depends on the set up of the riser (on the first year on ILONGANON in DINAGYANG, their risers didn’t have stairs, instead, they used gentle sloped risers) and when you say riser per se, there should definitely be stairs, how would you climb that if their isnt?!? common sense…
the choreography of dinagyang is definitely unique, the choreography is followed according to the UNITED NATION’S MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS… you see, ADDING (NOT CHANGING!!!) costumes mean development… also it tells mainly on, from simplicity to complexity, from how the people in general evolved from being a simple person to a more civilized and more rational individual…
now, alikaraw, if they would join next year with the same choreography, that would be very idiotic… para mo na ring sinabi na wala nang ibang alam ang choreographer nila, which is not true of course. as a choreographer, dapat marunong ka ring mag innovate (hindi modify, because they differ a lot!)… as you have seen, meron bang inulit ang ilonganon sa choreography nila last year?!? the answer is WALA kasi, marunong silang mag innnovate as compared to others na parang basurero ng choreography…
and what tribe is the most requested tribe after aliwan?!? TRIBU ILONGANON LANG DAHIL NAGPERFORM ULIT SILA SA MALL OF ASIA!…. aaaaaaaawwwwwwww!! simply shows that, the award may be yours, but the audience satisfaction have never been yours… sa inyo inyo lang siguro, pero kung pang kalahatan, mas nanaisin pa ng mga tao na manood ng performance ng dinagyang kesa sa sinulog, kasi yung dinagyang, world class, yung sinulog, pang cebu lang yan!
hay.. tama na nga… sakit na sa bangs to… exam ko pa naman next next week… makapag research nga muna! enough said… inyo inyo na yung comments nyo dito, but if you would drag my name again on your future posts, hindi ako magdadalawang isip na sagutin yun.. at parang na notice ko na pinagkakaisahan ako dito… hmmm…. i could stand by myself pala… hindi ko na notice yun ah… hrhrhrhrhrhrhrhr!!!

Hello! Dyan. I am from Luzon, but I go to festivals in the visayas everytime, since iba talaga ang dances doon. I admit walang magawa yung mga taga luzon, iba kasi dance festivals dito. Nakita ko nag enjoy nalang sila.
Pero comparing Sinulog and Dinagyang, siguro 5x ang dinagyang power. Da best talaga ang drums dun kaysa sa Cebu trompeta lamg hehehe. Best bet ko sana Dinagyang, ngayon bakit halos lahat ng moves ay ginaya ang dinagyang. Eto lang masasabi ko.
Yung lutong macao, babalik pa rin yan next year. Sana di na sumali dinagyang, sayang efforts! Mag promote nalang ng festival nyo don ok pa! Ipa solo nyo sa gumaya!
At sa LUMAD BASAKANON, sana next year maisipang nyung “LUMA” na ang tugtugin nyo!

about the issue that lumad is showcasing sinulog?!? i dont think so.. di ba nasa FREE INTERPRETATION category sila ng sinulog?!? di ba, pag sinabing “FREE” eh kahit ano, pwede mong gawin… ngayon, bakit yung lang ang ginagawa ng lumad?!? wala na bang iba?!? sabi sa akin, kaya daw natalo ang pintados de passi last year dahil wala silang sinulog dance to the fact that FREE INTERPRETAION ang sinalihan nilang category.. ano yun?!? bakit ka pa gagawa ng category kung halos wala rin syang pinag kaiba sa isang category?!? kahit na hindi na disqualify yung lumad sa sinulog 2006 eh talo pa rin sila sa pintados de passi… consuelo lang yung dahil may wheels daw yung mga props nila. and isa pa, bakit walang wheels yung props?!? paano magiging mobile yung props?!? kaya hindi nagiging flexible ang sinulog dahil wala na silang alam sa pagsasayaw… pre requisite pa rin pala ng FREE INTERPRETATION CATEGORY ang “sinulog dance” na wala namang kwenta dahil papadyak padyak at kakaway ka lang . yun lang yun! and kung hindi man original ang DINAGYANG, eh ika nga nila, ITS A BEST COPYCAT! dahil mas kilala pa ito kesa sa ati-atihan!

Hahaha! yeah agree you know in an investigation, “a disaary comment is a sign of guilt”, medyo guilty lang sila kaya ganyan ang comments nila. I have been to those festivals in the visayas (cebu, kalibo, negros and iloilo) and I recorded most of them, converted them to my DVD collections binibenta ko sa mga european for the tourism marketing. Upon review and analysis medyo halos sa ati-ati na sila nag copy ng mga moves(you can see yung nag pa uso ng “riser” or “stage” sa performance was dinagyang). Kaya sa nag comment na “so called” nanalo sila, dapat may analysis muna. Pwede naman silang manalo ng original moves ng sinulog, like young taga Leyte kaso eh! lively talaga ang ati-ati, bwahahaha!. Correct ba ako since there are 2 celebs in Panay that’s ati-atihan and dinagyang. The only difference is Ati-Atihan has been there almost 500 years and its a festival and a tradition. If you want competitive lively ati-atihan go Dinagyang! Yung Pintados yata sa Kasadyahan ba nag co-compete? Basta I will still be there recording lahat ng festivals that’s part of my job. Yung Sinulog pwedeng i-compete sa Palayan Festival in Nueva Ecija. Totoo naman! halos pareho lang moves doon. I suggest na palakihin nalang ang festivals in Panay, malaki pang pera sa tourism makuha nila, at may Bagong International Airport na yata dun, although wala international flights, maganda naman kaysa Mactan. Para siyang NAIA Terminal II and design.

Simula nang napanood ko ang Dinagyang ng Iloilo sa Aliwan 2004 I never failed na panoorin sila taun-taon sa Aliwan at sa Youtube. Gusto ko sanang mapanood ang Dinagyang sa Iloilo, sana magkaroon ako ng time next year na makapunta doon. My friend told me na mas marami pang magagaling na performers sa Dinagyang na hindi ko pa nakita.

aha! So this is good I see many Cebu Fans (johnro-lumad addict, ddcage, chin2, Richard, lei, ajaw gajud, cebuley, jag, Cebukobai, znichz, tasyo, samok kayo da, Lumad Fan, john) then only marvin_kim is the GI (Genuine Ilonggo)
The way I see it, the Dinagyang team has consistent in performing all the Aliwan Festivals, and even the Pintados team(where are they now?). Medyo maangas lang taga Cebu kasi Back-to-Back champion daw sila, pinag ka isahan nyo ang talo, at ang dami nyo, why GUILTY? ba talaga kayo? di ba “deja vu pa! yung isa dyan!” Even the Luzon teams, always heads-up to Dinagyang but not Sinulog and always preparing for this, sila talaga ang team to beat, I am from Mindanao by the way, as manok00 said “analyze before talk” baka totoo talaga na may copya. This can also happen in sports if you copy opponents technic that always win, then do it. The judges decision is final but the key is the technic or move that has been taken(kopya!) to win.
To close this tama rin sinabi ni manok00, Dinagyang should not participate in the Aliwan anymore give chance to others. Let them miss the true team to beat!

I have been to Pasalamat Festival 2007 in La Carlota City end of April. I got my complete recorded DVD’s on the events. Iba beat dun! Hopefully pag di na sumali ang Dinagyang next year, sana yung Pasalamat team will participate and they are the group to watch and i’ll put my bucks in beating Sinulog 5:1 if LUMAD BASAKANON is till there for Sinulog. But if others will be then 50-50 ako, basta wala na LUMAD BASAKANON!

Dinagyang Festival involvement in promoting the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) was reported as the best practice in an international workshop attended by about sixty representatives from a dozen countries.
No other Philippine festival can outdo the Dinagyang Festival.

beyond the Unknown, yes 5:1 for the winner against the so called champion LUMAD. As for the Pasalamat yes it’s influence by Latin beat. But what does the the crowd like to hear “its the beat” like the drums of Dinagyang and Ati-Atihan or the Latin beats of Pasalamat. If we lined-up tourists to chose 3 beats (Dinagyang or Ati-Atihan), Pasalamat and Sinulog. Sure! Tourists will choose to dance on Dinagyang/Ati-Atihan or Pasalamat. Para ka nalang nag parade sa Sinulog sa padyak-padyak at tunog ng mga trompeta eh! I choose the 3rd placer on the 2006 simulog than the recycled LUMAD.

as an ilonggo, but more importantly, a filipino, comments and counter comments here have really gotten out of hand!
if i’m not mistaken about it, it’s what you call enthnocentrism: the tendency of an individual to look at other people’s culture thru the prism of one’s own. this breeds biased cultural profiling as what we can see in an individual, we tend to see in a general way to the culture he/she is affiliated with- which is not only unfair, but also very wrong. both sides, my fellow ilonggo brothers and my fellow cebuano countrymen have just shown themselves to guilty of it!
to my fellow ilonggos, be honorable and courageuos in your defeat! wether the lutong macau issue is true or not, we have to rise above that! ultimately, when all is said and done, aliwan is still an event showcasing the different festivals in the country. we maybe the yearly crowd favourite but in the eyes of the judges, we are not good enough to be champions. there’s no shame in being second best! it’s something to be very proud of! to my cebuano countrymen, be generous in your victory. and this generousity must also come with humility, if you really believe yourself to be one and not the very opposite you that you always accuse us ilonggos of.
it’s unfair to brand the sinulog choreography as basura/basurero because that’s a blatant insult to the judges and the cebuanos! i would say their performance was a splendid display of cultural jubillation!
it’s also unfair to call ilonggos ‘tikalon’ because that is a very sweeping generalization of an otherwise largely humble people. not all cebuanos are humble and not all illonggos are boastful, and vice-versa. in the passionate pride of both sides to prove they are the best, both did so at the expence of one thing: that beyond all the awards and recognition, it is still a cultural event that aims to strenghen each festival by becoming more aware and appreciative of each other’s rich experience. let’s stop unfairly calling each other grotesque names that seem to stretch the whole nine yards with no end in sight!
and if ilonggos really believe dinagyang really to be the barometer of other festivals, it should welcome that development because it could only mean one thing: the rise of many new mansions in a village is a sign of improvement in that village. if i were to live in a mansion, i would prefer to be also surrounded by mansions and not dilapidated structures! that’s being secure of your own place in the sun despite being surrounded by new and upcoming stars. and if sinulog really believes itself to be the best festival showcase of aliwan, then then it’s cebuano supporters should display it in a champion-like manner.
the way i see it, both sides have really brilliant people who are posting opinions in this online forum. but exercising wisdom and enlightenment are more important than impressing upon all the other people here how brilliant you are- be it a cebuano,ilonggo or whatever. that wisdom goes beyond one’s earning a grade of 1. something. that wisdom also goes beyond one’s achievement of being a former runner-up in mr. universe-asia. and to think that the origin of all of these is the aliwan festival!
i hope to see you all again in next year’s aliwan festival. congratulation(s) to the winners and peace to all!

Hindi premyo ang hinahabol ng mga sumasali sa Dinagyang. The City and Province of Iloilo and the Dinagyang Foundation subsidize some the expenses of the Tribes.

like tasyo! siya lang pangit (hindi lang siguro IRL) dito pag nag post…. and then again, the fact about dinagyang is this, the tribes in dinagyang competition is being subsidized by the iloilo dinagyang foundation… each tribe recieves mostly more than P100K if im not wrong… (but the estimation ranges from P80K to P100K/tribe)… wala pa diyan yung sariling support galing sa tribe mismo… imagine, if pag isang school ang nag participate sa ati-ati competition, bibigyan na sila ng mga P80K as budget, but then, hihingi pa ang mga yan ng another support mula naman sa school mismo, so stop bickering as if mahirap ang dinagyang… bakit?!? meron ba yan sa sinulog?!? if im not mistaken, may nagsabi pa nga di ba, yung mga out of town contingents nyo sila sila pa mismo gumagastos sa mga presentations nila?!? well, ibahin mo ang dinagyang dahil kahit antique (yes, sumasali ang antique sa kasadyahan competition) eh binibigyan ng suporta ng iloilo dinagyang foundation although maliit lang ang binibigay sa mga participants ng kasadyahan mga p50K lang yata… and also, wala pa yung support naman galing sa province of antique mismo… SO STOP… JUST STOP STATING THINGS AS “FACTS” THAT YOU EVEN NOT PROOVE NOR SUPPORT!! and stop pretending to be a “know it all” if you’re just too dumb enough to say it!
