During the awarding ceremony of Dinagyang Festival, the two winning tribes (Tribu Kahiilwayan winner of Kasadyahan Contest and Tribu Ilonganon winner of ATI contest) were invited by an official of the Manila Broadcasting Company, to officially represent the Dinagyang Festival in the Aliwan Fiesta 2007 slated on April 2007 in Manila.

Dinagyang is given privilege by the Aliwan Fiesta, as the only festival that will showcase two winning tribes.

I hope also to see more contigents from Iloilo Province aside the two from Dinagyang Festival. The Tultugan Festival of Maasin, Iloilo which was included in top 10 (7th place) performer of Aliwan Fiesta, and the Pintados de Pasi of Passi City, Iloilo which always on the top 3 spot since joining the festival 3 years ago.

miriam » February 27th, 2007 at 9:14 am

do we need to get tickets? how do we get tickets? :)

Jake » February 27th, 2007 at 9:38 am

No tickets required. The performance will be at Quirino Grandstand in Luneta and infront of Aliw Theater. The parade and street dancing route will be from Luneta to PICC Ground passing along Roxas Blvd.

go philippine festivals…

tasyo » March 15th, 2007 at 11:24 am

it’s so amazing to witness a showcase of various festivals in the philippines.

what’s not good is that losers tend to reject judges’ decisions and create their own stories (like the lutong-macao thing, and boasting that thye’re better than the proclaimed winners).

do we really have to put others down if we do not make it?

.

I have been bitten by the travel bug and has been doing a lot of traveling. There is a website which has helped me a lot – http://www.hoparound.net. It gives you an excellent listing of fiestas, where and when it is held. What’s great is that you will also see a list of micro tourism service providers per location. So you can plan your trip to the fiesta you want to visit and arrange for the services you would need during your stay even before your leave your place by using the internet.

Dinagyang Fstival has a good track record in Aliwan Fiesta – the National Streetdancing Competition
2003 – 1st runner-up
2004 – CHAMPION
2005 – 2ND RUNNER-UP
2006 – 1ST RUNNER-UP
And they are also the only festival which are given previlege to send 2 contingents (TRIBU ILONGGANON AND TRIBU KAHILWAYAN) to the 2007 edition of ALIWAN FIESTA slated on April 26-28 in Manila.

Hope they will capture again the top spots of this contest.

we’ll see… but im sure, this year’s going to be very very hot! i mean, with all these Philippine Festivals, we can beat the Grand Parade of the mexicans!

and with very good news, since im here in manila, i can watch it live this time! even if i have to come home late! tapos na kasi midterms namin during that day!

jeff » April 18th, 2007 at 3:15 pm

The winning tribes in this year’s Dinagyang competition Tribu Ilonganon of Jalandoni Memorial National High School and Tribu Kahilwayan of the Sta. Barbara National Comprehensive High School are all set for the Aliwan Fiesta in Manila.

They are going to have a send off party this Friiday at Iloilo Freedom Grandstand. The street leading to the grandstand will be closed for the said send off party.

Iloilo will also field a giant float made of indigenous materials carrying a “big warrior” in full Dinagyang costume of the native Atis during Aliwan Fiesta.

Cara Jeanne Sullano will vie for the Reyna ng Aliwan Beauty Contest.

Dinagyang souvenir items, like Dagoy key chains, Ilonggo delicacies, T-shirts and others, will be exhibited for sale at the Aliwan Bazaar.

ayan na naman, nag umpisa na namans silang mang alipusta ng festivvals, darling, if you cant give a good comment, better keep it to yourslef or just keep your mouth shut because its not pleasing to the yes of other readers here!

marvin_kim » April 20th, 2007 at 11:10 pm

what are you trying to insinuate with this statement?!?

let’s see if who’ll give a play ground demonstration! i saw your performance on youtube and all i can say is that, it’s your team who gives playground demonstration not ours! and we’re not lying because our statements can be proved by the videos in youtube, so better yet, just give it your best shot and we’ll give ours! enough said! PEACE!

marvin_kim » April 21st, 2007 at 10:10 pm

kasi robert, ganito yun, nai-inggit lang ang mga yan dahil di nila matanggap na mas flexible at mas magaling pang sumayaw ang mga bakla kesa sa kanila…as simple as that!

come to think of it, there’s nothing wrong if gays are performing for a dance… im sure sa ibang festivals maraming baklang sumasali, so why bother?!? sa sinulog meron din yan no! hello! this is reality people! we better get used to it! only idiots believe otherwise! and sad to say, we are not one of those idiots!

and sa lahat ng mga festivals, 75% ng mga choreographer dun eh bakla! dahil ang mga bakla ang may pinaka artistic instinct sa lahat when it comes to dancing!!

no offense meant!
PEACE!

dale nichole » April 22nd, 2007 at 12:02 am

dale nichole » April 22nd, 2007 at 12:16 am

hello nalang sa mga cebuano, infearness to the sinulog contengent, they dance very well,at ang bait pa nila…

Rick » April 22nd, 2007 at 9:09 pm

hello PLEX of iloilo…wag naman ganyan,i have read your comments of aliwan 2006,remember plex that our lives has ups and downs…and that means,in every competation theres a winner and theres a loser,we should accept the fact that the iloilo contengent has been defeated by the other contengents such as the lumad basakanon of cebu city…
And you should accept that there are better than the iloilo…that is all i can say,and i do believe that it is not the cebu city who has started this kind of exchanging bad comments and suggestion towards the other,as what i have observe,it is the deffeated contengent who started this, who cannot accept the reality
of true competation…

sports lang tayo lahat…

OKEY…..

cebu city

lei » April 23rd, 2007 at 3:10 pm

to marvin_kim
i agree to what you’ve said..magaling naman ang mga bakla na sumayaw..mas flexible din silang sumayaw..and about sa choreographer, karamihan din mga bakla eh,kaseh, magaling ang mga bakla na bumuo ng mga steps(magchoreograph)..
about sa pagsali ng mga bakla, they have the freedom to join,as long as they know how to dance..everybody can join a compit.kahit sino kapa…..

sa saturday pa ang grand parade… manonood ako… i have to text my fellow ilonggos here in manila so that we could congregate and make a crowd of Ilonggos. mas masaya kasi kapag kasama mo mga kababayam mo! ^_^

to dali_oms…

jokes are half meant… don’t be too rude darling… it’s not pleasing even if it was only a joke, and besides, how could DINAGYANG survive for almost 40 years? we’re not even inviting other performers… it simply shows that we can stand also alone… di ba, some of them said that Sinulog couldn’t prosper well without the out of town contingents… someone said that… i forgot his username here… sabi nya, hindi daw ganun ka lively ang sinulog kasi parang kulang kapag walang OTC..

Every contingent did their best… Congratulations!!!

Anyhow, Lumad Basakanon of Cebu City has proven once again their mastery of their crafts… Sa Sinulog Festival pa nga lang sa Cebu, makita nga lang ng crowd sa grandstand na nakapasok na sa entrance ang Lumads, naghihiyawan na…

No wonder na kung sila na ang nagpe-perform, palakpak at hiyawan na ang maririnig mo even before the instrumentalist beat their drums until the dancers went out of the sports center…

Iba talaga ang Lumads…

Congratulations to all the choreographers, contingents, organizers of Aliwan and for everybody who took part in the event…

Mabuhay Tayo, PILIPINO!

update naman dyan kung sino ang mga naging winners this year aliwan fiesta 2007

marvin_kim » May 1st, 2007 at 12:15 pm

well… as what they are bragging that they are the best (KUNO!! i know the reason why they won anyway.. but i won’t tell it here… baka sumama pa loob nila… hay buhay… PULITIKA… excuses nothing even if its just a mere festival.. Aliwan is not the best, im telling you!)..

Champion (daw… na hindi naman! yuck! perfect recyclist… mga basurero ng choreography!) – sinulog

1st runner up – dinagyang festival

2nd runner up – alikaraw festival (this tribe should have been the winner! i liked their performance a lot!) better watch this in youtube to know what i mean…

overall, walang kwenta ang aliwan… konti lang ang mga nanood… wala ngang tremendous applause sa sinulog eh.. mas maingay pa ang cheer sa alikaraw! im not lying because i was there in quirino grandstand… di ko lang alam sa aliw theater… pero all i can say is, hindi talaga deserving ang sinulog PARA SA AKIN!! yun lang…

I witnessed the Aliwan 2007. Surely, the Sinulog contingent was the best. They were precise, choreography is perfect and entertaining. Although Dinagyang gave a close shot.

I am not a cebuano but from Pasig City.
We must be proud that we have so many festivals in the country.

Agree, mas magaling ang Tribu Alikaraw compared sa Lumad Basakanon. Hope next year may bago silang choreography na ipapakita.

To Jeff,

What do you expect in a performance? Surely, they aim for a perfect choreography. You are a typical Pinoy with crab mentality. Move on!

Ronnie

lei » May 4th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

xempre ang gagawin nilang choreography eh yung related sa festival nila, alangan naman na papalitan nila..revival pwede,,kaya tanggapin nalang..better do your best next time..okei..no hurt feelings

Spyder » May 4th, 2007 at 11:29 pm

wow congratz s nanalo… but ganda tlga ng ilonganon ganda ng movements at vry active p sila!!! Syng d nadala ung Tribu Kahilwayan! kung dinala lng nila ung lahat ng props at ung music nila n maganda d dinala… mas maganda p ung performance ng Kahilwayan last Kasadyahan Festival. Nkkiyak tlga un!!! kung nkta nyo lng sana!!!

Jeff » May 5th, 2007 at 9:11 am

To Ronnie,

That was my observation and it is not a crab metality. Meron ba akong sinabing masama sa Sinulog?

jazz_me » May 5th, 2007 at 1:25 pm

Well…
Lei and spyder were both right!!!
Agree naman ako sa mga sinabi nu guys but take note lei na
unfair yun para sa iba wala naman akong ibig sabihin kundi

Pero hindi naman ibig sabihin nun kawawa ang mga talo…

well aliwan festival is one of the greatest event in the phil. history coz it showcase the talents of the diff. region… it only shows that filipino is very active in terms of tourist attraction….

Ronnie » May 5th, 2007 at 9:16 pm

To Jeff,

You can always defend yourself and I don’t have to defend sinulog here because in the first place I am not a Cebuano and i don’t have any allegiance to that city or province.

Look at what you commented. You agreed to the comments posted by that person named Jasper…you guys personify the typical Pinoy, with crab mentality who does not develop nor grow and tend to harbor or harp the negativity instead of the success. You can make suggestions on how to improve but not to put down the performance of others.

As I said, no matter what you say, you are a crab!!!!

sonicwavette » May 6th, 2007 at 1:24 am

Marvin_Kim, I think it’s UNFAIR for you to say that politics even has something to do with it. It’s not even well thought. Pray, do tell, my darling, specifically, what’s this PULITIKA brouhaha you’re insinuating? don’t say that “baka sumama ang loob nila” BRING IT ON, GIRL! LUMAD is the BEST because they are NUMBER ONE. what part of that didn’t you understand? Be fair, grandma! Every member of Lumad gave their best, their sweat, life, blood, tears for this and you just sit there in your cozy little chair in front of your computer while they were there representing MY CEBU, sacrificing everything just to be the best, and I’m sure the contingents from your hometown did the same. But there must be somebody who’s best, and the second best, and we all know who they are.

oh, here’s a suggestion: why don’t you join your troops to aliwan next year? Maybe with your presence and expertise, you guys will finally bag the first prize? How about that, sweetiepie?

sonicwavette:

darling, the real winner should have been alikaraw! NA REVERSE YUNG RESULTA!? second pa ring ang ILONGANON at 3rd lang ang sinulog!! GET THE PICTURE?!?!? why its unfair to say politics is involve?! eh totoo naman talaga! i’ll tell you this, why would you ask for judges in a competition if you’re not going to impose that results they made?!? aber?!? THE ORGANIZERS HAVE THE MONOPOLY OF THE RESULTS!! BETTER ASK THEM PERSONALLY TO KNOW WHAT I MEAN! PERYA NA ANG ALIWAN DAHIL SUMALI NA ANG SINULOG. AND ITS TRUE, SOME OF THE RULES OF SINULOG WERE CARRIED TO ALIWAN, SO ,MAS FIITING YUNG ALIWAN SA MGA SINULOG CONTINGENTS AS COMPARED TO OTHERS LIKE HERE IN MANILA AND OTHER PARTS OF LUZON. BAKIT KASI, 5 MINUTES LANG?!? EH MAHIHIRAPAN TALAGA MAG ADJUST ANG IBANG FESTIVALS DAHIL (IF IM NOT MISTAKEN) YUNG HALOS LAHAT SA KANILA EH MORE THAN 5 MINUTES ANG PRESENTATION?!? DI BA?!? AND LOOK, NI HINDI MAN LANG NAG IBA ANG CHOREOGRAPHY NG LUMAD AS COMPARED TO LAST YEAR. SA COSTUME?!? DARLING, DINAGDAGAN NYO LANG ANG COSTUME NYO NG BAHAG AT CHALECO. HUWAG KANG MAGSINUNGALING DAHIL YUN PA RIN ANG GINAMIT NYO LAST YEAR!

basta ang masasabi ko lang, BASURERO NG CHOREOGRAPHY. walang ka dating dating ang performance nyo! na bore ako and not only me but other spectators as well…

^^^ MAYBE…the winner should have been ALIKARAW. hehe.
di pa masyadong kilala ngunit ganunpaman
they have tried their very best and as a newbie,
mind you, they got the 3rd place in this competition.
and at least nasa linya na sila ngayon ng mga winners
kahit underdog in the sense that DINAGYANG and
SINULOG ay matagal ng kilala at point factor na kasi yun.
sa lahat ng winners…congratulations!

WHEN YOU SAY COSTUMES… DAPAT FIT SA CONCEPT SA CONTIGENT… THAT IS WHY LUMAD BASAKANON IS WEARING BODY SUITS WITH TATTOOS PRINTED BECAUSE WE ARE INTERPRETING THE LIVELIHOOD OF A PINTADOS COMMUNITY… HINDI KATULAD NG IBA DYAN COSTUME PA LANG AND DUMI NA… TRY TO THINK ABOUT IT… DIBA MAY NAKACOSTUME NA T-BACK LAST YEAR… TAPOS NGAYON MAY NAKACOSTUME PA RIN NA T-BACK… NOW, KANINO ANG RECYCLED COSTUME…

Dinagyang is still my favorite. They are well-choreographed. I witnessed the celebration when I went to Iloilo City last January. Competition is fierce, as the performers strut their stuff on the city streets, shaking and moving in time to the furious drumbeats. The mayhem is infectious – and fun.
I also watched them during Aliwan Fiesta, they are great!

marvin_kim » May 9th, 2007 at 9:42 am

ang yabang naman ng dating na 3rd best festival ang sinulog sa world?!? may proof ka ba?!? paki post nga ng article na nagsasabi kayo ang 3rd best in the world. ni hindi nga kagandahan yang festival nyo. dependent pa sa out of town contingents. tapos, sasabihin pa nilang parang perya yung sa ibang contingents. bat pa kayo nang invite kung lalaitin nyo yung ibang contingents?!?

dale nichole:
i don’t need to use a microscope para kilatisin ang costume ng lumad dahil malayo pa lang, alam ko na nang ni recycle nyo lang ang costume nyo. anong problema sa t back?!? hindi recylce yun dahil hindi mo ba alam na ganun ang costume talaga ng mga ati?!? duh! common sense. hindi yun trademark (katulad ng sinasabi nyong trademark ng sinulog yang tights na may tattoo), kundi nasa umpisa pa yan! the audience love you?!? give me a break! you’re making me laugh really hard darling! you’re delirious! feeling mo sikat kayo?!? duh!?!? wake up darling. nanaginip ka yata. i wonder why ILONGANON performed at SM MALL OF ASIA after aliwan and basakanon didn’t?!? sino klaya ang crowd favorite?!? hellouer?!? nanaginip ka pa rin yata! at bakit ako maiingit sa inyo?!? the hell icare with your money. nauubos din yan. pero ang satisfaction ng tao eh hindi. at dun hindi nagmimintis ang DINAGYANG as comapred to you. nakakaantok ang performance. hay… masyadong play safe anf lumad. wala. walang pinagkaiba. kahit saan ka mag punta… reapeat performance lang. hay… booooorrrrrriiiiiinnnnnnnnggggggggg!!!

observer » May 9th, 2007 at 8:12 pm

Zup people..I watch aliwan last april 28..Maybe Tribu alikaraw did not make it to top it is because their performance is very much influence by the sinulog..You know what i mean, if you able to watch sinulog over the years..Like for ex. same music specially the buggle part and the ritual thing. As you can see the set up of instruments is very much pattern by the sinulog.I think hilongos was so influence by the cebuanos causing their defeat, maybe next time they will have an identity on their own.. dont get me wrong about this but thats the true..So originality is a big question…Nevertheless its a wonderful performance though, plus very very colorful costumes..

ere, ako ba nag umpisa ng away?!? uhm sorry but that accusation has neither bases nor grounds. kaya nga comments ang nakalagay dito kasi, comments lang ang nilalagay dito.

comments lang naman ang nilalagay ko dito, but i don’t know, kasi may reply sa comment and then somebody started using words below the belt, and to retaliate back, i have to use such words also, and mind you, hindi ako nang aano hangga’t hindi ako pino provoke, sino ba nang provoke ng una? ako ba?

may nang una kasi mag comment ng hindi maganda, so, since it hurt my ego so much (he talked about gays being dancers), dapat lang na i defend ko ang point ko. and looked, before i post my comments here, wala akong pinatatamaang significant persona.

and, how true is this, nakasali na pala way back before ang sinulog?!? thru sinanduloy or correct me, if, iba yung festival na ni represent nila?!? kasi, kung sinulog yung ni represent nila, natalo sila. 3rd daw sila eh, tapos, hindi na sila sumali ulit. correct me if im wrong ha.

P.S.
ayer, hindi ako tanga, sorry but i won’t stoop down to your level of befouled manners, yun, tanga ang gumagawa nun hindi yung mga intelehente. and mind you, could you manage to get an average of 1.16 or 1.23?!? kasi, hindi naman ako makakakuha ng ganung average if tanga ako, so SORRY, HINDI AKO TANGA! heaven forbid, wag sanang bumalik ang karma sa mga pinagsasabi mo. and since you started this below of the belt words, bring it on babe! hindi kita uurungan!

winnie » May 22nd, 2007 at 8:14 pm

marvin kim,
ok lang yan kahit pa natalo nang paulitulit ang dinagyang. it is not the money or who ever wins the contest. what matter most is the satisfaction of entertainment for all.. even foreigners can tell who’s their favorite.. anyway, we all know that dinagyang can stand on its own kahit wala yang aliwan.. truly, dinagyang need not have to prove themselves to anyone because “dinagyang/kasadyahan”, has already established itself globally.. kaya nga (given privilege) lagi ang pagsali sa aliwan/the pleasure of aliwan to have the “dinagyang” participation. alam mo kasi, “dinagyang” is a crowd drawer and entertainer. kaya nga, kahit di pa sumali ng dinagyang next year it’s fine with me. instead, what “dinagyang needs to focus on, is to perform outside the country like the place of europe or america. sa pagkkalam ko kasi, ang “dinagyang/kasadyahan” ay naka perform na sa ibat ibang bansa like sa japan, singgapore, malaysia, nepal, etc. take note! lahat ng yan invitation….

marvin_kim » May 22nd, 2007 at 8:29 pm

alam mo winnie, im starting to feel pity over ayer… wala na kasing ibang magawa at name mersonal na.. gosh, i never wondered why, wala nga palang breeding ang mga bisaya. i could generalize it by the way they comment here. ahem, sorry kung hindi ganun ga bastos kasi, kami lang naman yung mga lovable people in the philippines.

tama ka nga, dinagyang had performed several outside the country. it was tribu bola-bola of iloilo national high school that gave way for dinagyang to be recognized in the whole world. after them, naging sunud-sunod na ang invitation sa dinagyang to perform everywhere. sana, sa europe naman sila mag perform. ^_^

Nino bah? doon ba nanggaling ang Sto. Nino? diba sa cebu yun? could somebody tell me? I think na mas may relevance yata ang sinulog…

SUGBOANON,

If you dont know kung anu talaga ang history at trademark ng dinagyang better shut-up!!!!!also to others you dont know whats the relevance? If cebuanos(refered) are really dancing for sto. nino bakit ganyan kayo makaasal, or really pretending to survive and this cool stuff for your own goods…mag-research kayo, and for your information ilongos are know for “dagyang” a celebration for the coming of Senior Sto. Nino so they can do whatever they want as they celebration goes…so the unmeningful steps that you are saying are the steps which recognizes sto. nino…:-) wala akong ibig sabihin nagpapaliwanag lng brothers and sisters!!!

makatiboy » May 30th, 2007 at 2:50 pm

did you know that at least two of the judges in the aliwan festival (2006 and 2007) were either consultants or choreographers of the sinulog festival specifically the lumad basakanon tribe? somthing fishy there, don’t you think?

makatiboy » May 30th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

and ace durano had something to do with it as well. i watched the festival and i can truly say that the most applauded and most watched festival even during practice sessions is the dinagyang festival. one time may concert nga ang side a malapit sa practice area. the concert stopped for a while because the dinagyang tribe practiced and people went flocking to the practice area.

mac » May 30th, 2007 at 4:25 pm

I just want to clear, Sinulog Mardi Gras was started only in 1980 while Dinagyang Festival was started in 1968. Iloilo Ati-atihan was the original name of the festival and it was later rename in 1977 as Dinagyang Festival to differentiate it from that of Kalibo Ati-atihan Festival.

In 1974, the Iloilo Ati-atihan (Dinagyang Festival) played a vital role in the “Operation Balikbayan” program of the Department of Tourism (then Ministry of Tourism) by providing visitors with a unique form of cultural entertainment.

The successful yearly celebrations of Dinagyang Festival, the former First Lady Imelda Marcos encourage other Cities, Towns and Provinces to have their on own distinct festival. Kaya nagkaroon ng Sinulog, Masscara and other festivals ang bawat lugar because of the success of Dinagyang Festival to attract Tourist.

mac » May 30th, 2007 at 4:40 pm

SUGBOANON,
That was unfair comments sa Dinagyang Festival. You were stubbornly unreceptive sa Dinagyang Festival. Anong akala mo sa Ilongo basta-basta gagawa na lang ng Festival na walang basehan? You better refrain from commenting.

fan » June 2nd, 2007 at 10:44 am

dinagyang has all the reasons in the world to be proud. it has performed in many parts of asia and has been invited to perform many many many times. and it is almost 40 years old. and it is the ONLY festival in the philippines supported by the UNITED NATIONS. and until today, it is still being invited to perform in many parts of the country. DINAGYANG festival, we are very proud of your success!!!! kahit marami pa diyan ang detactors niyo, you have proven yourself in everything you do. dinagyang is still the most applauded and well loved by the public in the aliwan. masakit man but this is the fact.

marvin_kim » June 3rd, 2007 at 9:30 pm

at biglang nawala ang mga detractors… wala na kasing ma ipukol sa mga ilonggo… hahayz… may klase na naman next week. our classes are bound to start on june 12, but i wont attend the only class i have for that day (retorika).. i better watch the repeat performance of DINAGYANG at quirino gradstand on the 12th… maaga pa yun.. to my fellow ilonggos, wee you all there! ^_^

basta ilonggo BASKOG!!

Dinagyang will not be peroforming this coming Indepedence Day Celabration but ILOILO City’s premiere cultural and religious festival will invade the USA.

Dinagyang will perform in 2007 Texas Folklife Festival at San Antonio, Texas, USA on June 8-10.

marc » June 4th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

After the group’s performance in Texas, they will also visit Minneapolis, Minnesota to perform during the halftime of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It is not only the city’s honor to perform in Minneapolis but of the entire country.

The city’s opportunity to perform in two US states is a big promotion boost of the Dinagyang Festival. It is a venue to encourage Filipino balikbayans to see and witness next year’s Dinagyang festival.

marc » June 4th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

SUGBOANON,
Wala ka na bang ibang masabi tungkol sa Festival nyo?

marc » June 4th, 2007 at 2:45 pm

For your info SUGBOANON if you don’t know the history :

Dinagyang was called Ati-atihan like that of the Kalibo festivity. History tells that it started when a replica of the image of Señor Sto. Niño was brought to the San Jose Parish Church in Iloilo from Cebu. The people of Iloilo honored the coming of the image and then became devotees. Until they made the day of the Image’s arrival as his feast day which falls on the 4th Sunday of January. Since 1968, it was already considered a yearly celebration, culminated by a nine-day Novena, an Ati-ati contest and a fluvial procession on the last day.

alam nyo, hindi ang mga lumad ang nag-aasal na parang mga walang modo dito ano? diba and ilo-ilo ang nagsimula ng away doon sa isabela? anong tawag nya diyan? nakapasimula na ba ng away ang mga cebuanos? and dagyang means “coming of the sto. niño”… hmmm, nakarating ba ang sto. niño sa ilo-ilo? hoy for your info, ang sto. niño aya nasa cebu hindi sa ilo-ilo…pinapakita nyo rin(citing the ilongos) that hindi talaa nakaratin ang sto. niño sa ilo-ilo dahil sa pinapakita ninyong masamang asal! at totoo naman eh na meaningless yun dance ng dinayang…OPINION KO LANG ITO HA, AND TAKE NOTE… WALANG WRON OPINION!

Congrats! Dinagyang for being invited in the 2007 Texas Folklife festival in San Antonio City, USA to be held on June 8-10.. hala bira dagyang na!!! sana sa susunod europe naman.. peace with you all…

wag niyo na patulan si sugboanon. kase ignorante yan. wala siyang alam at nakakhiya ang mga sinasabi niya. marami talagang detractors ang dinagyang kase marami ang naiingit sa dinagyang. well, dinagyang will be the first festival in the whole country to perorm and invade the UNITED STATES.

tsaka sugboanon, wag na wag mong sabihin na pahid tae ang iloilo dahil iloilo has the most number of universities outside metro manila and that only means iloilo is the most premiere city in education outside manila. nakakahiya ka dahil masyado kang ignorante. ang bobo mo talaga. ur a shame to all cebuanos! hindi ka pilipino dahil asal tae ka. cebu is a beautiful place and hindi ka dapat manirahan diyan. doon ka dapat tumira sa mga baboyan kasama mga tae doon dahil doon ka nababagay.

fan » June 5th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

hay naku, kaya nga raw nanalo ang cebu dahil dalawa sa mga judges ay consultants or choreographers ng lumad basakanon tribe of sinulog. syempre, dapat ipanalo nila ang tribe nila. kakahiya talaga…… anu comment, zaldy?

I just want to ask some detailed questions to my ilonggo friends..whats the role of sto. Niño in dinagyang? Like for example the presentation of Ilonganon? Can somebody explain to this site the connections/relationships of the 4 elements(colorful dancers) if im not mistaken, the eta tribe, the mirror and the child jesus.Para naman maliwanagan kaming mga cebuano. Sa Sinulog kasi nag eevolve lahat sa Sto Niño ang sayaw, that is why thanksgiving is the usual concept na maipresent.

well ..if you know how each step is interpreted and what is the purpose of each burloloys …well dinagyang (in my opinion) is a showcase of culture and religion …ibig sabihin this event is not only about focus in sto. nino like you have said “Sa Sinulog kasi nag eevolve lahat sa Sto Niño ang sayaw” but also how or what culture of ilonggos are..the way we live… and all the things that affects our daily lives… i guess they used mirrors kasi dahil sa sinaunang panahon … pinapaniwalaan na ang mirror ay may kapangyarihan na tumaboy ng masasamang elemento … the colorful dancers ,painting their bodies all over has also meanings …research mo na lang… di ko naman kailangan isa isahin …read ka din articles about dinagyang to know the facts about this event and why it is chosen as “THE BEST TOURISM EVENT in the Philippines” and also …kung gaya lang ng dati na open ang aliwan sa contingent festivals ng iloilo …d mu masabi na merun lang kaming dinagyang dahil year 2005 ..inubos ng iloilo ang tropeo(champion -pintados de passi 1st kahilwayan of sta barabra 2nd dinagyang ) … saka kahit natalo sila…ndi pa naman bumaba sa 1st runner up or 2nd runner up ang position nila..so dinagyang even if u lose..it’s ok …just keep it up …importante ma maintain ang rank 1 2 3 kasi not all the times iisang mata lang ang nakatingin sa inyo … saka kung anumang pinag aawayan niyo …well ..it is just a contest may nanalo talaga at may natatalo…and aliwan is just a station event …so i guess kahit anumang sabihin niyo..DINAGYANG is STILL the best coz WOW PHilippines wouldnt award it as the best tourism event in the country for nothing ….and UN acknowledge it too …hope SINULOG would have the same status para masaya d ba??

beyond the Unknown » June 8th, 2007 at 10:40 am

Thanks for the reply archblue, In my opinion both festivals should be credited in bringing thousands of tourists in our country. Filipinos should be happy that Dinagyang is chosen by the UN and branded as the best tourism event in the Phils..Cebu has a title na in terms of tourism,it is the #1 tourist destination in the Phils(highest #of tourists arrival).Positive attributes must be balance to all..

Lester » June 8th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

OO nga naman! Tama! Its just simply shows that festivals had a gr8 impact in terms of invitng tourists to spend their time here in pilipins! Income p kc un ng pilipinas! theres a lot of festivals here that we should be proud with! D q lng alam sa ibng lugar but here n Iloilo kc each town has its own festival like Bayluhay, Salakayan, Pintados, and many more. kaya lng, cguro Dinagyang and Sinulog r some of festivals n sumikat tlaga.
Instead, we can combine forces! n e invite mga tourists to witness our Festivals. heheheheeeheehhhhhhhhhhhhhhehheheeheh!

archblue » June 10th, 2007 at 3:45 am

salamat naman at both parties calm down …hehehe… in the end ..nasa ibang bansa na ang pumili kung aling event tribe or contender and iinvite nila na pumutna sa kanilang lugar … it will not be a competition but will be success to the invited tribe and also an experience that each person on the tribe will have and the pride of the place where they come from … kung me anomalya man wala …we cant do anything about it coz it is already finished …to my fellow illongos ..kung me anomalya ..hanap na lang din kayo kakampi …if there is none …let us prepare for another round next year .. :) but before that … sana sumali at manalo tribe ko para sila naman ang magrepresent ..hehehe.. (btw: my tribe has the highest rank on awards..hehe..) to all..peace out ..to beyond ..thanks …kala ko magfire out ka …joke… and to aliwan festival.. more power :) ..wag na kayo mag away…pag nawala ang aliwan..di na kayo maaaliw…wahahaha

SUGBOANON » June 14th, 2007 at 10:52 pm

question: may mirrors na ba sa sinaunang panahon? gumagamit na ba ng salamin ang mga aeta? yung mga elements, kailangan ba yun bugawin? yung pag change ng costume while dancing, worship ba yun sa sto. niño? yung mga aeta ba ay mga christiano? remember, cebu is the cradle of christianity in the philippines!

COULD ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME THE ANSWERS?

fan » June 16th, 2007 at 5:56 pm

johnro, let me set the record straight. if you read all my messages here, i didnt say negative on sinulog. di ako nagbitiw anything negative sa festival niyo. i only reacted sa pangit na sinabi ng kapwa mo cebuano na si sugboanon. he said that iloilo means “pahid tae.” of course, nagalit ako kase i have to defend my birthplace. tsaka if you read my messages, i didnt say negative about cebu. actually maganda pa nga ang cebu. ive only said that marami detractors ang dinagyang and whatever those people do, they cant put dinagyang down dahil dinagyang has proven many times to be the pride of iloilo just like sinulog as the pride of cebu.

we become emotional and lead into nasty exchange of words. i only defended iloilo for not being a pahid tae just as what your kababayan said. as for me, i only said na si subgoanon ang pahid tae dahil nakakahiya siya sa mga kapwa cebuanos.

fan » June 16th, 2007 at 5:59 pm

DIN, pls post na pics or videos ng dinagyang’s performance in the states……. thanks

marvin_kim » June 16th, 2007 at 10:30 pm

ahem, hindi talaga ma gets ni john-ro yung singificance ng mga risers, mirrors and changing costumes… again i will answer your questions as what have others posted here…

the mirror:
it was said that during olden age, mirrors were said to be something that could drive th spirits away, kaya nga may “bagua” ang mga chinese di ba? and history tells us that it was the chinese who first came here in the philippines for trading and commerce! chinese culture had already proliferated here in the philippines even before the spaniards!

“changing” (its supposed to be adding!) costumes and the elementals:
hindi “totally” religious dancing ang dinagyang! it is a religious event but it also showcases the culture of aetas and how they managed to survive along with the sudden change in today’s culture or status quo! the changing of costumes simply show “DEVELOPMENT”! metaphor na yan. hindi naman kailangan maging literal ang presentation like yours! also, dinagyang showcases not only jubilation, unlike yours again, because, it showcases the totality of aeta life and how the STO. NIÑO changed their life! kaya nga nasa end na part na yung STO. NIÑO kasi nga, mas nauna na yung early beliefs for anitos and elementals!

and also johnro, you are looking on the literal essence of dinagyang kaya hindi mo ito maintindihan. of course, hindi mo masasabi na cultural dance ang dinagyang kasi hindi mo naman ito inaabangan every year, and also, hindi kailangan maging literal and dance, unlike yours again, para maintindihan ng lahat. hindi ka naman siguro bobo dahil alam mo ang salitang “abstraction”. hindi mo kailangang i detail ang lahat dahil magiging mahaba lang ang dance, kaya nga sa dinagyang 7-10 minutes ang performance for every judging areas (5 judging areas! and with a street dancing with that, imagine parading kilometers in distance, under the heat of the sun!) para ma emphasize ang performance kahit abstract lang sya.

the risers:
it serve as their sanctuary, di ba nga doon nanggagaling ang mga costumes nila, with that idea already, we could say that they made it as their habitat and that’s where they do their living.

sana naman, mas maintindihan mo na ito. and this would stop your ranting on dinagyang. kung hindi, ewan ko na lang. tama nga siguro yung sinabi ni fan. or masyado lang makitid yung perspective mo!

marvin_kim » June 16th, 2007 at 10:34 pm

and also john-ro. kaya nga sa huli na rin pinakita yung mirrors kasi nga, wala nga namang salamin noong unang panahon, kaya nga may “transition” na tinatawag. bakit, mula umpisa ba, pinakita na yung mirrors? hindi naman eh.

at dahil dumami ang STO. NIÑO for the reason that people are celebrating for the STO. NIÑO. hindi naman kasi magkatulad ang sinulog sa dinagyang kaya huwag mong i kumpara yung bilang ng STO. NIÑO dahil yun nga yung pinag kaiba ng dinagyang sa sinulog.

makatiboy » June 23rd, 2007 at 4:39 pm

yup, dinagyang is really superb. ive seen it during the aliwan festival years back and became an instant fan of the festival. for me, dinagyang is the best especially when it comes to choreography and execution. very complicated and fast.

congrats dinagyang for being adjudged as the BEST TOURISM EVENT in the Philippines.

looking forward to seeing dinagyang every year in the aliwan festival.

hahaha! at last sinagot na rin ang mga katanungan koh… let me make myself clear ha… hindi lang ang lumad ang gumagamit ng the same concept all over again dahil mismo ang dinagyang keeps using their risers… hmmm, am i correct? basta ang gustp ko lang, kapag walang maninira sa sinulog, walang maninira sa dinagyang

SUGBOANON » June 28th, 2007 at 2:39 pm

hmmm, proud talaga ang ilo-ilo sa kanilang pagiging BEST TOURISM EVENT sa PHILIPPINES! pero hindi alam ng lahat na ang sinulog ang THIRD BEST FESTIVAL in the WORLD!
1st: CARNIVAL in Rio de Janiero
2nd: ROSE PARADE in America
3rd: SINULOG FESTIVAL in CEBU, PHILIPPINES
so, ano pa ang imumukha ng dinagyang? I got this records mismo from the Sinulog Foundation Office ha!!

I think Sinulog is the best Festival in the Philippines, been in Cebu for the Sinulog for about 3 years straight now, and it’s really a good event….never heard about Dinagyang…

mm » June 29th, 2007 at 11:57 pm

OK… HMM… let me think for dinagyang!?.
1. Dinagyang is the BEST TOURISM EVENT in the PHILIPPINES;
2. DINAGYANG is the only festival worldwide being supported by the UNITED NATION to promote “Millennium Devepment Goals”;
3. and also, awarded by the Asian Development Bank as best practices in cooperation with the government and non-government sector..

that’s all for now, i’ll be posting for an update later.. bye!!

marvin_kim » June 30th, 2007 at 10:54 am

iba naman kasi pag sinabing “mayabang” sa “may iyayabang”. so, dinagyang has every right para magyabang kasi naman, hindi matinag-tinag ang record. kahit ano pa sabihin nyo, hindi naman yan “tikal” kung may pruweba di ba?!? haller. common sense. kaya nga i have the right to say that dinagyang is the best. hello kyle, is your sense common to you?!? duh!

Mas lalo silang maiingit dito….

With blistered feet, dancers of the ECD Dance Company continue to delight audiences in several performances in Minnesota, Saturday, June 23, 2007, on the last leg of the cultural promotion of Dinagyang which brought the Iloilo City contingent to a series of shows in the United States. “Fantastic and great dancers!” were some congratulatory words from the audience as they leave the theatre after the performances. In fact, the two curtain calls got standing ovation.

In Minnesota, Dinagyang was first featured Tuesday, in the annual parade of the Northeast Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce. Advanced information from the Philippine Center of Minnesota (PCM), which entered the group in the parade, reported that the Dinagyang presentation has garnered an award as Best Crowd Pleaser. The parade, considered as one of the biggest spectacles in that part of the state, was participated in by about 125 groups and Dinagyang was participant number 100. People lining up the streets were very appreciative of the exotic costume and spirited streetdance; they met the approaching entourage with applause and whistles. The drum accompaniment was just a recording coming from a speaker atop the van that was at the back of the warriors. The group was joined by members of several Filipino groups under the umbrella of the PCM – the Filipino Minnesotan Association (FMA), the CSFM, Philippine Study Group, Philippine Nurses Association, Philippine Medical Association, among others.

In general….

All i can say is,
Sinulog are still the best festival in the philippines…
Not only that,
THE MOTHER OF ALL FESTIVALS!….

Ate » July 5th, 2007 at 8:43 am

Who’s your mommy?

Ati-atihan of Aklan is the Mother of All Philippine Festivals.

A 13th century (c.1212AD) event explains the origins of the festival. A small group of Malay datus, fleeing Borneo, were sold some land by the Ati people, the original inhabitants of Panay Island. The new arrivals celebrated the event at a great feast by painting themselves black to look like them.

The Ati are still distinguishable today by their dark skin and curly hair, and the name “Ati-Atihan” translates as “To be like an Ati”. It is considered to be, “The Mother of all Philippine Festivals” which was eventually copied by other similar celebrations across the Philippines such as the:

- Dinagyang of Iloilo
- Halaran of Capiz
- Binilirayan of Antique
- Maskarahan of Bacolod
- Sinulog of Cebu.
- And also Ati-Atihan’s of several nearby smaller towns of Aklan, Antique, and Capiz.

Ati-Atihan was originally a pagan festival. Missionaries gradually added Christian meaning. Today, Ati-Atihan is celenbrated in honor of the Christ Child, the Santo Niño. Three days of parades lead up to the main procession that starts in the church on Sunday afternoon. The parades are colorful and vibrant, much like the Mardi Gras carnival in Brazil.

Another Article:

“Summer time in the Philippines is also called the fiesta time because there are many festival that is celebrated all over the country. But there is one festival that is celebrated that incorporates all the different festivals of the Philippines into one grander, louder and more colorful festival that is happening outside of their own provinces and right at the core of Manila, the Aliwan Festival.

Aliwan Fiesta is known as the mother of all Philippine festivals will be celebrated on April 26 and 28. The Aliwan Festival is on its fifth year and organized by the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) together with the cities of Manila and Pasay, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Aliwan Festival brings tourist attraction in Manila because it has so much to offer and brings a new level of excitement.

Aliwan Festival 2007, named as “Mother of all Fiestas”, brings together hundreds of of the country’s finest craftsmen, street performers, and amateur models hand-picked to compete in the dance parade competition and float competition. The center of the attraction in this fiesta is the “Reyna ng Aliwan” beauty pageant. Cash prizes awaits the winners in the competition. The contingents are after the honor that they will get for being named as the best of the best.”

If Aliwan is now considered as the Mother of ALL PHILIPPINE FESTIVALS, Sinulog being the Champion for year 2006 and 2007, therefore, Sinulog is simply the best…

how can you be sure that your Dinagyang dancers are authentic from Iloilo? i doubt..halos lahat ng mga dancers ng sinulog are students and proffesionals..so if they are from bohol or from iloilo or from minadanao, its okay with the Sinulog, they are still Filipinos…and they are welcome to join in Sinulog…anytime…just like the recently concluded Miss Universe…Ms. Germany and Norway (notsure) are half-Filipinas…hope you get my point….

No question about that, what’s important for me is anong festival ang mas sikat ….anong festival ang mas maraming tao ang mag -attend… do you that almost 60% of the total Philippine tourists visited Cebu? a person can never win if he can’t accept realities…just accept the fact that Cebu Sinulog is more popular than Dinagyang and any other festivals in the philippines…and when you learn to accept that, baka Dinagyang will also gain populatity..but if you’re always thinking that dinaya kayo, lutong macau ang Aliwan….you’ll never be a winner….

hahaha… may newfound BOHOLANO frend told me na evedry year pala, outsiders ang mga winners sa sinulog. talunan palagi ang representives from cebu.

LUMAD BASAKANON’s success should be given to BOHOL kase taga bohol sila.

and it was found out by people from other delegates who joined the aliwan na two judges have an affiliation pala with sinulog. kaya they questioned and suggested that next year, the judges should be impartial.. yun lang

hahaha, di niyo pala afford to send your students abroad to perform…. sa DINAGYANG kase, may budget talaga nakalaan for DINAGYANG to go out of the country and present dinagyang personally at di lang portrayed ng kung sino man….at next year, sa EUROPE naman ang punta ng dinagyang…….

magpakatotoo ka kase mamatay ka sa inggit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fan » July 7th, 2007 at 11:59 am

well, there are more important things to do in cebu as well as in iloilo. it’s just that dinagyang can afford to send dinagyang to perform in the U.S. (through an INVITATION huh!!!!!!) and next year EUROPE…….

it’s a way for dinagyang to showcase the talent and the rich culture of the Philippines.

just accept the truth na LUMAD BASAKANON should be BOHOL’S pride and not cebu. wala talga kayo binatbat kase sa sinulog pa lang, talunan na pala lahat ng cebu representatives sa outsiders………

syanga pala, sabi rin pala ng BOHOLANO frend ko na gumanda lang daw talaga ang sinulog because of the delegates from CAMIGUIN, TANGUB CITY, BOHOL, etc. that means, yung magaganda daw ang taga labas

hay naku, accept the fact dahil it really shows sa kung sino ang mga nananalo sa sinulog every year

@fan: i mentioned, na walang full description of Dinagyang in WIKIPEDIA, why is that? common sense…its not that popular…..bakit ang ati-atihan , Sinulog meon sariling description asa WIKIPEDIA? just can’t understand bakit wala ang DINAGYANG…give the site kung saan meron full description ang Dinagyang…yong general site ha…yong parang dictionary like WIKIPEDIA…when you say meron kayong BUDGET for trips abroad…akala ko ba INVITED ang Dinagyang….so you pay own expenses just to go abroad? parang kayo yata ang naghahanap ng mga rockets nyo..kasi ang lam ko if you’re group is famous..they will invite you ang all expenses paid….of course Cebu Sinulog is very popular, kaya daming mga contingents from other provinces….no big deal naman yan sa mga taga Cebu..we accepted that they are better than us….but during Aliwan festival…they cannot represent the Sinulog ..that is why Lumad is the official entry from Cebu…regarding your, they are from Bohol…maybe..tsismis mo lang yon…walang katotohanan…same sa tsismis mo na ang ibang judges are choreographers og Sinulog…YOU CAN’T EVEN GET THE NAMES OF HE JUDGES SA ALIWAN…how can you be so judgemental…SINULOG IS SIMPLY THE BEST….

You gotta be kidding me! is this serious?? wahahahah tapos na ang laban, surrender na ta ani mga taga cebu…Its just the same as the people of cebu are not really cebuanos but bol-anons.wahahaha.How come a normal person has the guts to say this..Grabe na to!hahahah

mm » July 12th, 2007 at 11:17 pm

yeah yeah yeah sikat na festival nyo. Pero dinagyang is the best!! hahahahahahahahaha……

mm » July 13th, 2007 at 12:08 am

taga-cebu, do some deep research pa para malaman mo kung ano talaga ang relevance ng ati-ati sa dinagyang, para di ka naman mag mukhang tanga….wahahahahahahaha……

taga-cebu » July 13th, 2007 at 6:49 pm

From @mm:”taga-cebu, do some deep research pa para malaman mo kung ano talaga ang relevance ng ati-ati sa dinagyang, para di ka naman mag mukhang tanga….wahahahahahahaha……”

for your info, i already made a DEEP research….but if you insist…sana Ati-atihan in Iloilo na lang ang Festival nyo….and not Dinagyang….clear naman siguro yan na ang source of Dinagyang is copied from Ati-atihan..but the city of Iloilo wants to have a different festival..kaya they created Dinagyang…and ngayon you want us to believe that Ati-atihan and Dinayang are one? are you crazy? by the way… it was stated naman in WIKIPEDIA that Ati-atihan was the basis for all other Festivals …please read below and understand what you read @mm…it’s from your kababayan Dinagyan defender in this furom @fan:
A 13th century (c.1212AD) event explains the origins of the festival. A small group of Malay datus, fleeing Borneo, were sold some land by the Ati people, the original inhabitants of Panay Island. The new arrivals celebrated the event at a great feast by painting themselves black to look like them.

The Ati are still distinguishable today by their dark skin and curly hair, and the name “Ati-Atihan” translates as “To be like an Ati”. It is considered to be, “The Mother of all Philippine Festivals” which was eventually copied by other similar celebrations across the Philippines such as the:

Dinagyang of Iloilo
Halaran of Capiz
Binilirayan of Antique
Maskarahan of Bacolod
Sinulog of Cebu.

And also Ati-Atihan’s of several nearby smaller towns of Aklan, Antique, and Capiz.

I think the statement above….just reveals that Dinagyang and Ati-atihan is not the same…furomers..kayo na lang mag decide sino ang hindi marunong umintindi sa binabasa nila…kung sino ang TANGA…si taga-cebu o si mm….

taga-cebu » July 13th, 2007 at 6:59 pm

just an observation of dinagyang defenders here…sa previous post nila…they keep on posting..i=post na ang mga pictures..but until now wala akong nakitang pictures ng perfromance ng dinagyang sa states? WHY? WHY? and a big WHY?

ericd001 » July 14th, 2007 at 3:16 am

Beyond the unknown> it was tribu ilonganon.

to all the rest, maghinay-hinay lang. i may delete comments taht i may find offensive or below the belt.

mm » July 15th, 2007 at 12:26 am

taga-cebu,

well, i’ll tell you this.. you still don’t understand.. kaya read this message carefully;

“A 13th century (c.1212AD) event explains the origins of the festival. A small group of Malay datus, fleeing Borneo, were sold some land by the Ati people, the original inhabitants of Panay Island. The new arrivals celebrated the event at a great feast by painting themselves black to look like them.”

Ngayon, sinabi ko ba sa previous post ko na iisa lang ang ati-atihan at dinagyang? no!! both are very much similar, but each festival has a different concept. at baka hindi mo parin makita na PANAY ISLAND as a whole ang naksulat dyan. marami sa mga ilonggos are also the descendants ng mga atis…. makikita mo yan kung taga iloilo ka, dahil half of population of the ilonggos in general, are karay-a (atis original dialect) speaking and that includes other provinces of panay island.. and that, dinagyang was created also, to preserve its atis cultures/heritage and history ng mga ilonggo.. the festival is formed to give awareness also, sa mga ilonggos kung saan sila nag mula.. makikita mo nga yan sa mga color of the skin ng mga orig. ilonggo people “maitim”..
Dinagyang festival is concentrated to the cultural/history and religious showcase; while ati-atihan, is devotedly to its religious culture…. now, get it?

mm » July 15th, 2007 at 12:53 am

at sa mga pinagsusulat ng mga kasama, ka berks, ka pamilya, ka kilala mo dito or whatever.. pa inosente; pa ignorante; tatanga tangahan pa, as if wala talagang alam.. nanlalait, nam bully pa at parang naiinggit pa.. so what do expect me to call it? diba TANGA TALAGA AT NAIINGIT!!!!

at kung wala kayong insecurities, but d nalang kayo mag post ng achievements ng festival nyo para masabi pa natin na mas, “sikat na sikat” na talaga kayo. at baka mabati ko pa kayo dyan….

mm » July 15th, 2007 at 1:20 am

taga-cebu,

punta ka sa iloilo by plane. pagdating mo doon sa airport magtanong-tanong ka. dahil, santa barbara and cabatuan area are dominated by kinaray-a speaking people.. malapit lang yan sa city of iloilo pero iba dialect doon….

now, i thank you pa nga dahil well aware ka na pala sa dinagyang ibig sabihin, sikat na gid ang dinagyang.. peace!!hahahahahaha……….

kyle » July 15th, 2007 at 10:54 pm

kyle » July 15th, 2007 at 10:55 pm

sikat na ang dinagyang sikat po kayo sa ilo-ilo lang pero sa ibang parti ng mundo e1 ko lang… sa pag kakaalam ko sikat yong mga illongo sa pagiging tikalon… ^_^

taga-cebu » July 16th, 2007 at 6:39 pm

@mm : what’s the relevance of your post sa topic and issue dito? jumping from one issue to another…same words “TANGA at NAIINGGIT”……….

taga-cebu » July 16th, 2007 at 6:44 pm

@mm: haven’t you noticed sa mga post mu? pag na-question ka sa post mu biglang nag 360 degrees ang sagot mu…pag na -question ulit balik na namn sa 360degrees..walang point…pabalik pabalik ang explanation pa-ikot-ikot….i guess the topic is about Aliwan 2007…so tanggap muna @mm na talo talaga ang Dinagyang sa Aliwan 2007? Just gave me a straight answer @mm…

mm » July 17th, 2007 at 12:47 am

whaaaaaat? now, who’s recycled.. ako ba?

ha? I had answered all your questions…maybe you forgot na pullout previous post mo. medyo below the belt na siguro message mo doon.. pero okey lang….

taga-cebu, i thought you were a good researcher.. maybe this (mm>>July 12th, 2007 at 11:17 pm) would satisfy you.. now, sino ba mahilig sa diversion dito? it is the popularity, recognition and the history of the festival we are talking about right now my dear, not the history from two month ago….

and so, tanggap mo muna na rin ba “taga-cebu” na mas marami ang recognition ng dinagyang vs sinulog?

haaay….ambot! sulit2x, balik2x a!

kyle » July 17th, 2007 at 11:17 am

maraming recognition yong sinulog… pero pinakamaraming promotion yong dinagyang kasi hindi pa sila sikat… promote muna kayo ng promote who knows sisikat rin kayo balang araw…

taga-cebu » July 17th, 2007 at 5:21 pm

@mm: in your last post it just shows again na your jumping from one topic to another…i ask you a question….still you didn’t answer it…the question is “TANGGAP MO NA BA NA TALO ANG DINAGYANG SA ALIWAN 2007? ..but you insist in your post that you answer all my questions…..you still haven’t answered it….

taga-cebu » July 17th, 2007 at 5:41 pm

@mm: the readers of this forum can decide sino sa atin ang below the belt ang mga posts…..i think. readers (yong hindi bias), can already recognize us in some ways through our posts…..just an observation :

@mm – never answer questions straight, but will answer it with another questions….always posting TANGA and INGGIT

@fan – questioning the Aliwan judges but cannot gave names, how can that be? ..always posting PICTURES PICTURES ng Dinagyang sa ibang bansa but until now walang makikitangb pictures….

mm » July 17th, 2007 at 8:55 pm

taga-cebu; ok! if you insist, ang TANGA2x mo talaga PROMISE!!..Pakihanap nga nito (mm>>July 12th, 2007 at 11:17 pm).. sa mga friends lets help sinulog….

kyle; be happy!! WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA………

sinulogsucks » July 18th, 2007 at 3:08 pm

sinulogsucks » July 18th, 2007 at 3:09 pm

champions can be left behind by second placer..

taga-cebu » July 18th, 2007 at 3:44 pm

@mm: why not answer it straight? i just want to confirm it with you sana…because how you answer the posts will reflect your personality…….anyway….you don’t have to answer my question na….clear na sa akin….
your still using the same words….wawa naman si @mm…

lei » July 19th, 2007 at 12:30 pm

im sure sinulogsucks is from dinagyang festival..

Rodel » July 20th, 2007 at 8:02 am

Philippine Festival 2007 was a big success at the Yoyogi Park, Tokyo, Japan last Saturday (July 14).

Hindi ko pala alam na ang Tribu Bola-Bola Drummers of Dinagyang Festival participated the event.

Rodel » July 20th, 2007 at 5:16 pm

There is a cultural presentation on the said event, DoT (through its Team Japan led by Director Benito C. Bengzon, Jr. and staff Renee Marie N. Reyes and Eva Zulueta) brought over a cast of CCP artists from Ballet Manila, Ballet Philippines Kidz, Ramon Ubusan Folkloric Group and the Tribu Bola-Bola Drummers. Topbilling the cultural show were popular couple Robert Seña and Isay Alvarez , both stars of the West End production of “Miss Saigon.”

SUGBOANON » July 21st, 2007 at 8:00 pm

hahay, hindi yata alam ng mga taga ilo-ilo na hindi lang ang sinulog ang naka receive ng invitations outside the philippines… mismo ang lumad yata ang ininvite doon sa malaysia! kung tutuusin, matagal nang iniinvite ang sinulog to perform all over the world…

kyle » July 27th, 2007 at 12:00 am

uu nga invited yong lumad… pero yong dinagyang nag popromote lang… kasi d pa sila sikat… wawa naman…

res » July 29th, 2007 at 12:18 pm

you can distinguish the cebuanos from ilonggos..tsk..tsk..

mahalai » August 15th, 2007 at 9:44 am

eto na naman… magsasabi na naman sila na invited daw sila, pero wala naman nangyari… bakit?!? akala ko ba mayaman ang cebu?!? isn’t the sinulog foundation funding you to perform abroad?!/ in that case, mas mayaman pa pala ang dinagyang even if maliit lang ang prizes dito, kasi naman, its all about religious dancing and NOT DANCING FOR THE CASH!! HAHAHAHA!! i just found out that why sinulog is inviting out of town contingents, wala kasing ka latuy-laoy ang sinulog pag walang OTC… gosh, ang dinagyang nga, nakaka survive kahit puro iloilo contingents lang. and, kaya daw sumasali ang mga tribes sa cebu is because of the cash!! si chexxter ang may sabi niyan, taga cebu siya malamang. kala ko ba religous event ang sinulog?!? tsk tskt tsk.. kung tutuusin, mas religious pa nga ang dinagyang, kasi, wala kaming paki sa prize na yan, dahil ang gastos sa preparation pa lang eh more than triple compared sa prize na makukuha, so, who’s more dedicated to the CHILD JESUS NOW?!? aber?!? answer this!!

jez » September 10th, 2007 at 5:35 pm

hahaha go dinagyang..

mahalai » September 17th, 2007 at 4:21 pm

at wala na silang masabi… natameme na sa post ko… hahahahaha!! mag po-post lang kasi, hindi nag iisip… tsk tsk tsk…

I dont want you guys arguing who is the best and what place is more popular. One should accept reality and if it hurts, then nobody can cure it but yourself. Accept that its not always the same person or group that is on top.

Now, with regards to Dinagyang and Sinulog I was able to witness Dinagyang twice and Sinulog at least every year and I can objectively say that Sinulog is the better one. More people coming, more activities, the activities are related to the most important celebration which is the Fiesta of Sr. Sto. Nino.

For me, Sinulog is the Mother of All Festivals in terms of prestige, size, and marketability.

peace to all

i accidentally got into this site while searching accomodations in bacolod… and was surprised to see that theres a debate on which festival is the best… i have only experienced SINULOG since im from Cebu… but im going to see MASSCARA this Oct 2008 for the first time since my husband is from Bacolod. but my husband said that SINULOG is way better than MASSCARA. and another thing that got me really amused when i read the comments here is when you guys say ilonggos are TIKALON.. haha THAT IS SOO TRUE! i have noticed that ilonggos really have this INNATE characteristic of being TIKALON, not just w/ my husband but w/ other ilonngos i’ve met… so amusing.. and they pretend they dont understand Cebuano or bisaya, when they actually do…. :-)
