Punta Riviera at Bolinao, Pangasinan

I Google searched for a place to spend a long weekend at Bolinao. Punta Riviera caught my attention with its professionally made website and pretty good photos. The rates sheet on the website was a bit confusing, though, but I was determined to book a room and made sure to secure my reservation via bank deposit.

After an adventurous bus ride, we reached the resort and I was pleased with what I saw. I can tell that the resort is rather new (found out later: it opened to the public in 2005), had a well manicured lawn and very pleasant staff. The room was elegant with a queensize bed, a satellite TV and DVD player (I never figured out how to work the TV, though – I don’t mind because I don’t watch much TV), and a shower that looked like one from a Jimmy Neutron or Jetson’s episode. There are some family rooms and dorm-type rooms too.

The resort has a bar and restaurant. There’s a nice 2-level pergola for a nice dinner by candlelight ;-) . Here’s a tip: to avoid inconvenience, order your meals well in advance and tell the staff what time you want your meal to be served.

Punta riviera Infinity Pool

The infinity pool is pretty, host for a pleasant dip for kids and adults alike. At an angle, the pool looks as if it extends all the way to the sea and the horizon. The resort is right smack at the point where a river (Ilog Malino) meets the sea.

When you venture right outside the resort, you’ll find a nice white-sand beach. The resort has a couple of kayaks for anybody wanting to take a rowing adventure upstream Ilog Malino.

Within 20 minutes from the Resort are some Bolinao tourist spots like underground caves (bring your bathing suits for a nice swim in the natural pool inside the cave), the Cape Bolinao Light house at Patar, and the Cape Bolinao Beach which some have started to refer to as the “Boracay of the North”. Back in the town center, it’s just a few kilometers to reach the UP Marine Science Institute where you’ll see some giant clams!

When in Bolinao, Punta Riviera is a great place to relax and unwind. Look for manager Gener and proprietor Ian Smith, do mention that you found their place via ka edong’s article on PinoyTravelBlog :-) .

where is the cheapest place to stay in Punta Riviera for at least 2 nights and 3 days, ideal for a family of 8 with a budget not exceeding Php15,000 (including our food and transportation and we’re coming from Bulacan) will this be enough, can someone help us give a more realistic estimate of the budget so we could plan our trip most likely somewhen in April of this year. Thanks!u

I haven’t been to Punta Riviera because me and my friends stayed at Puerto del Sol. It’s very near Punta Riviera because they share the same stretch of white sand. Actually, white-cream sand. You may also want to go to Puerto del Sol. The staffs are very accommodating. It’s not crowded but there’s enough people you can meet. The manager is very friendly, he visits every table during dinner time. Strongly recommended ko ‘tong place na ‘to. You may visit their site at http://www.puertodelsol.com.ph. Sobrang ganda talaga ng place.. :)

Correct me if I’m wrong but the last time I inquired about the nipa huts in Patar, the overnight rate is already 1,500. I’ve been there but didn’t stay overnight kasi the huts are open nga and there’s not much facilities. Medyo malayo din kasi ‘to from the town proper so medyo hassle sa food, rest room, etc. That’s what you pay for sa private beaches in Bolinao kasi they have (almost) everything you need for your vacay. But I’d say that Patar has the best beach! Suggestion ko lang: stay in Punta Riviera or in Puerto del Sol then pay a visit to Patar Beach, Enchanted Caves and the lighthouse. Amazing talaga ang view doon! When you go to Bolinao, maiinlove ka talaga sa place. :)

10 of us stayed at Punta Riviera over the Christmas break. Their beach front is nicer than Puerto del Sol (though there’s no stopping anyone from crossing over). There is a long stretch of sand bar where you can walk until you hit the part where the waves roll in. Safe for children. The infinity pool overlooked the beach, which made for a wonderful view.

Not sure if it’s because of the overwhelming guest count, but the service was slow and food wasn’t very good, and rather over-priced for what it was. Breakfast was supposed to be buffet, but you would have to line up and be served somewhat “paltry” serving sizes. Good thing someone tipped us that Puerto del Sol had good (but more pricey) food, so we would walk over there for our meals after the first disappointing dinner. Even if staff were pleasant, there were those little things that pointed to service “needing improvement” – like giving only 2 soaps for a room good for 4, room not ready for check-in even late afternoon, etc. Rooms were also not very spacious for a big group.

Their grounds though were well-manicured and set up for really relaxing. They had a lot of areas where you can just sit around, doze or look out to the sea. But for swimming, definitely, nothing beats Patar Beach, which is around a 30min drive away. It’s a clean public beach with a great stretch of white sand and a wonderful sunset. An afternoon visit here is not to be missed.

Bolinao is really a hidden gem but be ready for the looooong drive:)

Thank you for describing Bolinao so very well… we are still in the process of formalizing a tour package, although some of itineraries we prepare for clients are tailor-made, based on their number of days to vacation.. . may we invite you to look into some of our pix at the website: northernfrontiertravel.com… We also offer bangus farm visit, you might even get to watch how milk fish is harvested and try the many ways it is being prepared… Yummy!

Hi, Can anybody recommend a good place to stay at Bolinao?
Early as now, we’re already planning our trip during the off-peak season where most resorts are budget-friendly and resorts are not that crowded. And we’re contemplating if its bolinao or hundred islands.

Koko » June 22nd, 2009 at 3:07 pm

We’ve been to Punta Riviera, Bolinao, Pangsinan last Summer. The place is nice…BUT that’s the only good thing I can say. We booked for 12 pax and paid 12,000 pesos for an overnight stay. We are very disappointed with our assigned room, though we are aware that the 12 of us will be sharing one room but we were never informed that we’d also be sharing the same restrooms with the other 2 big groups on the other rooms. 3 big rooms sharing 4 comfort rooms (2female and 2male)…untidy restrooms. Foods are ultra expensive (i.e., fruit sampler worth 250pesos – half pineapple and 2 bananas! grrr!). Service is bad, foods are served after an hour or so…patience is a virtue! The beach is okay but it is just knee to hip high…so you can’t really swim. If you are really looking for a cool place and value for your money, think twice…I’d rather go straight to Hundred Islands. It is a lot cheaper and more beautiful.
