Jaro Cathedral Belfry
The Jaro Cathedral and Belfry are only some of the few 18th century structures still existing today in Iloilo. Built in 1864, it is now the church where the Archbishop of Jaro regularly celebrates mass.

The Archdiocese of Jaro is one of the oldest dioceses in the country. It was created a diocese by virtue of a papal bull of Pope Pius IX on May 27, 1865, according to a document signed by Archbishop Gregorio Martinez, then Archbishop of Manila, under whole ecclesiastical province the new diocese belonged as suffragan. {from CBCP}

The current bishop there is his Most Rev. Angel N. Lagdameo, D.D.
Jaro is one of the larger districts/towns of Iloilo City and hosts to several of the oldest Spanish houses in the entire province. The belfry, which stands inside the Jaro Plaza, is among the fewer religious structures that were constructed separately from the main church.

The area around Jaro Plaza is a nice place to visit because of the heritage structures like the Jaro Belfry, the Jaro Catherdral, Old Houses and Commercial Buildings.
