Davao Taxi’s

I might be called a hypocrite for extolling the benefits that Davao taxi’s bring to daily commuters, given that they contribute regularly to my blood pressure whenever I drive Davao’s streets. But they are quite a convenient means of getting around, since practically anywhere you can flag one down because of their cornucopia like abundance.

Growing up in Davao, I remember the Mitsubishi Minica’s as the staple variety of taxi (I can’t believe it came with just a 360 cc engine!!!). Which then progressed to the Suzuki Carryall van’s. Now we have the Kia Pride’s, Toyota Corolla’s and Kia Avella’s to serve as workhorse taxi’s.

We have two types of taxi’s here, the non-aircon and the aircon variety, with the former being the most abundant. The flag down rate is Php 26.00 for the non-aircon while Php 30.00 for the aircon. Don’t worry about feeling icky after riding in a non-aircon taxi because Davao City’s air ain’t that polluted, so go ahead and enjoy the breeze and get to experience why dog’s like sticking their heads out of car windows… *kidding!*

After asking around, I’ve learned that the two most popular taxi’s here are from the Maligaya and Mabuhay companies. If you need to get picked up, you can easily call them up so that a cab can get routed to you…. now that’s a nifty tip for a lost tourist/business traveller!

Phone No’s listed Below:

Maligaya (082)299-1111
Mabuhay (082)235-1784

Popularity: 5% [?]

Make sure to check that the meter is on. Many of them try to out-smart you and arrive at the location telling you that the meter stopped working but that it costs XXXphp… No way! Most are very curteous to us tourists.
