Cheap Taxi at Mactan Airport in Cebu
I was lucky enough to have travelled to cebu with a seasoned traveller. When we got our luggage from the arrival area we headed to the exit to get a taxi. The usual taxi companies were there asking us if we wanted a cab to get to our destination. My partner told me not to mind them as she knew a cheaper way to get a taxi because the cab companies there will charge you a fixed rate no matter where you are going. True enough when I asked them they gave me a fee that would shoot my blood pressure up had I been travelling for personal reasons and not due to the company sponsored business trip that I was in.
What we did was walk out the arrivals section, cross the street and look for the stairs that headed for the departure area. We then flagged a cab that was dropping passengers off from the departure area. Very practical considering that the cab who just arrived from the departure area already made money dropping a passenger off and would not think about bleeding you dry for a fixed rate considering that you are paying for his way back to the main island. If he did try to jack you, you could just get off and wait for the next cab exiting the departure area.
I guess this tip could hold true for any airport that has the departure and arrival area easily accessible to one another.

I was also fortunate enough to be with a Filipino companion soon after arriving at Mactan-Cebu, so I was spared any awkward confrontations with boisterous taxi reps…though I still had to ignore them the best I could.
Come to think of it, I had never before taken a taxi here in America, so I was completely new to the “taxi scene”. What an introduction that was for me

That’s what I do when I go to Cebu.
I like the attitude of taxi drivers in Cebu. Unlike in Manila, the Cebu drivers would give you your change up to the last centavo.

@Dumaguete Dreamin
Hope you enjoyed your stay in the Philippines
@jay
yeah I noticed that too, when I paid him he was fiddling for coins when normally they would start scratching their heads stare at you with that “oh-I-left-the-taxi-barn-without-change” look
@eric
Good luck on your trip

Bush and the Republicans were not protecting us on 9-11, and we aren’t a lot safer now. We may be more afraid due to george bush, but are we safer? Being fearful does not necessarily make one safer. Fear can cause people to hide and cower. What do you think? Why has bush turned our country from a country of hope and prosperity to a country of belligerence and fear.
If ever there was ever a time in our nation’s history that called for a change, this is it!
We have lost friends and influenced no one. No wonder most of the world thinks we suck. Thanks to what george bush has done to our country during the past three years, we do!

Oh woow….great tip..Thank you so much for sharing! I will be going to Cebu this March for the very first time by myself and this is quite helpful considering that it’s my saved money I’ll be spending.

Always ask the driver if they have a working meter. If there is a Guard at the taxi stand you may want to ask the guard to ask them for you. If you are at a hotel or resort then ask the staff to call a taxi for you.
