Igorot Dances at Tam-awan Village Baguio

Igorot Dances at Tam-Awan Village BaguioTam-awan Village in Baguio City features authentic Ifugao huts, an Art Gallery and Crafts shop, a coffee shop, Fishpond, Eco-tours, art workshops and cultural shows. The village recently appeared in “Asian Treasures” (Robin Padilla, Angel Locsin) as part of the hunt for anting-antings.

I visited the village together with a couple of friends one Saturday afternoon. We were lucky to witness some Igorot dances by a youth dance troupe. It was a lot of fun for us watching the dances, hearing the gongs and other bamboo instruments. High point was when the dance troupe invited guests to dance with them. I took a gong, went with the beat and followed the dance of the leader.

Catch the community dancing every Saturday afternoon.

We also took a tour around the village. Tip: Request for a tour guide especially if you’re in a group. It helps you appreciate the many interesting details about cordilleran culture, art, architecture, beliefs and more. Don’t forget to tip your tour guide generously.
