Oh My Gulay! Art Gallery and Vegetarian Resto in Baguio
“Most people think the attraction is the food. Actually, it’s an art gallery that happens to serve vegetarian food. ” This is how gallery-owner Kidlat Tahimik explained to me what Oh My Gulay is all about.
Oh My Gulay is one attraction in Baguio that had eluded my attention for around 5 years now. I heard about Oh My Gulay from so many other friends, but got to visit it just this month. Oh My Gulay was featured in various TV shows too, including Mel and Joey just last month.
First second I walked in, I said to myself “This is an extension of Kidlat’s house! It’s a playground!”
It’s exhillirating being in the midst of the artworks, the twists and turns, the eclectic, the absence of structure, the patch-art-work, the journey, the ever-changing. Some parts of the gallery look like a scene from a Dr. Seuss book with un-straight lines and un-perpendicular corners. Take a tour around the place, view the artworks, arouse your curiousity and find out what surprises await you around the next corner, stride across the shaky plank leading out of the boat (there’s a boat in the restaurant — can you find it?).
As for food, Chef Marlon Caranto quickly serves up his individually cooked dishes. They have generous servings of vegetarian pasta dishes. He reminds me that they don’t use MSG (monosodium glutamate or “ajinomoto”). I say, you’ll just need to “tak-tak” the salt and pepper shaker - vegetarians will want to have control of how much salt they have in their food. Try also the Dayap tea, highland coffee and other local drinks.
Lastly, right next to Oh My Gulay under the same roof and space is a performance stage called “Vocas”. You can catch some good bands playing there in the evenings, and if you’re lucky you just might catch a night of drums, gongs and dancing. The crowd could get huge especially when the girls hear that the KKK brothers will be there
.
Oh My Gulay is on the top floor of La Azotea Building along Session Road. Contact 0918-6676025 for inquiries (no textmates please

Hi! a friend introduced me to Oh My gulay two years ago after our trip to Sagada. I’m not much of a veggie eater but the place made me eat everything on my plate. And the food simply is great!
I just had to take my cousins there when we went to Baguio last May and needless to say, they all liked it.

for organic green salad the best kept secret is EVE’s GARDEN.
the food is amazing!!! although you have to make a reservation and they only serve lunch. Price is 550 per meal which inlcudes a big plate of greens with salad dressing to die for, a choice between chicken or beef, and dessert is an organic oatmeal bar made from organic molasses. you also have a choice of coffee or tea. I suggest you get the tea (mint, ginger and ginseng combination…. yummy!!!)

The decor and ambiance of this place is out of this world. It’s almost like a little theme park inside, with artsy decorations, antiques, and artwork. Very eclectic and hippy-like. And the view of Baguio from it is very panoramic. The only thing lacking about this place is that the menu doesn’t have very many dishes on it. Most of the meals tend to be noodle or pasta dishes, and there are a few desserts too. It doesn’t have the variety of most vegetarian restaurants, especially asian ones. The food is not really Asian either, but more like generic organic food. Not bad, but not very ethnic.
The downside of this place is the staff. I have no idea what the owner or management is smoking, but their waitstaff are like statues who never smile and never take your order unless you walk up to them and ask them to come over. It’s like they are totally apathetic. They don’t like to talk and they look like they don’t even want to be there! What the @#$%? So why did they get hired? When I complained about this, some hippie grungy looking bum told me that that’s how Baguio is, so laid back that the waitstaff don’t talk to you unless you talk to them first! Uh huh. Yeah right.
And in spite of all this, they have the nerve to charge me a service charge of 10 percent? That was a ripoff and wrong! How can there be a service charge when there’s no service?
If you are the owner or manager of this place, I request that you email me with an apology - wwu777us@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Winston

As I was reading comments of WuMaster, I was nodding my head…. I can’t beleive how people can talk about the good food in this place…i can’t even refer to this as a restaurant.
WuMaster, the hippie grungy looking bum you spoke with is the owner and i bet you he hardly takes a bath! So, what makes you think they know hygiene in the kitchen..hmm? They have no clue about customer service! All they know is to smoke weed, play drums, paint and they think they are the greatest artist of them all. hahaha…They are the greatest trash looking people here in Baguio for sure!!!!
i hope they just continue to stay in their own “world” and not drag theirselves into the “restauranteur world”…
If you like veggie, I would agree with Jean’s comment on Eve’s Garden. Now, that’s a treat!
