Oceana- Another Peaceful Alternative in Puerto Galera

When my nieces from Papua New Guinea came for an impromptu visit, I was tasked to locate a resort where we can hang around for 4 days. Because of the time constraint, most of the top resorts in Galera were fully booked and my agent managed to find a vacant cottage in Oceana Beach Resort.

We left Manila very early, as the boat of the resort was scheduled to pick us up at Leah Beach in Batangas at around 11am. The trip to Batangas was in itself tiring, but with the help and availability of an in-car entertainment system, all the children were preoccupied with the movies which ranged from cartoons to movies starred by Eddie Murphy.

We reached Leah Beach early and we were given the opportunity to look around and I was surprised to find out that the Beach was not only a beach, but also a mini pier where boats from various resorts in Puerto Galera picks and drops passengers off. I was more apprehensive on leaving our vehicle at Leah Beach, and I was not too confident about the promise of a “secured parking” which actually meant, the “guard” was a man wearing shorts and a holey t-shirt and the promised of “fenched parking” meant the beachfront with the perimeter wrapped in 4 feet of chicken wire fence.

When our boat came, I was surprised that my entire family occupied the entire boat and we were off as soon as all of us were on board. Before we left, my husband looked back regretfully on our vehicle parked on the beachfront along with equally prestigious and more expensive vehicles… we both hoped our vehicle is still intact after 4 days.

DSCN1231.JPGThe boat dropped us off directly infront of the Oceana Beach Resort. Oceana was a nice and quiet resort. Unlike huge resorts like Club Noah in Palawan, Oceana was more of a small getaway and from what the agent told me was a little far from White Beach and Talipanan which is more frequented by the younger crowd and tourists.

oceanaLike a mother hen, I quickly checked us all in and went to check the amenities in our cottage. My husband cringed when he saw that the size of the cottage. It was small, and with 4 huge teenagers, 2 toddlers and 2 adults, I was a little irritated that the agent told me all of us can sleep there comfortably. NOT EVEN. But even with the problem of space, as suspected, we were hardly in our cottage. The resort was very well equipped, and diving lessons and kayaking and other sports paraphernalia were available free of charge. My nieces excitedly tried kayaking and they were off before I even noticed.

hi! how would you rate the food (buffet)they serve at oceana? does the buffet offer many choices?

our package includes the accomodation and buffet meals, and having read your feedback makes me consider the point of paying for something that may be unsatisfactory…

thanks!
