Oceana- Another Peaceful Alternative in Puerto Galera

The entire trip was spent swimming, kayaking, playing snooker (as my nieces call it) and lounging around. On our last day, we finally decided to give the town of Galera a visit, and we went over to White Beach. The tricycle ride was expensive, I was charged P200 per trip and we discovered that the ride was too long and bone jarring. I sadly remembered our vehicle parked at Leah Beach…

We got to busy White Beach and I was surprised to see a barrage of foreigners and local scantily dressed and tanned. I remember feeling matronly and over age. The place was a backpackers haven. I gave my nieces P1,500 each for shopping money and they all went off like eager puppies. One of the things I found out while in White Beach was that the place IS definitely for the younger bunch. College girls and boys flocked the place. The place, I found out also have smaller and cheaper accomodations. I also saw tents mounted on beaches and properties close to the beach. I bet that one did not cost alot. Once at White Beach, food won’t be a problem, because local eateries and restaurants are everywhere.

For people who does not mind the crowd and wants to be in the middle of action, White Beach would be a great place to hang around and probably meet other travellers.

However, for people who wanted a little peace and charm, Oceana can be that place. During our stay there, the only problem my family has encountered was a little glitch with the food. The restaurant serve only limited dishes, and the price is ridiculous. I actually noticed some travellers buying their food in White Beach or in town and coming back carrying packed food and having a picnic in the beach or in their cottages.

My nieces all from Papua New Guinea came back to show off the stuffs they have bought. It ranged from wrap-arounds, souvenir shirts and hats. The younger ones bought trinkets and locally made earrings which were a great find in Galera. If we had more time at White Beach, swimming could have been in the must-do list. But remember White Beach is a public beach where most people do not carry their money packs around, so be wary and carry only your essentials.

As I look back to our trip to Puerto Galera, the trip was not at all bad and not very expensive. We did get our vehicle back… it was without scratches and we were charged P50 or P60 pesos per day if I was not mistaken. Whatever! I was just happy to see my vehicle without any damage, and after a great massage, a manicure and pedicure at Oceana, I was ready to face anything!

hi! how would you rate the food (buffet)they serve at oceana? does the buffet offer many choices?

our package includes the accomodation and buffet meals, and having read your feedback makes me consider the point of paying for something that may be unsatisfactory…

thanks!
