White Beach - Bolinao, Pangasinan

My brother had his long weekend vacation there. According to him, it is a 5-to-6-hour drive going there. But before you’ll get to paradise, you’ll have to encounter first a rough road that is really worth around an hour of your time.

A not-so-white sand

They stayed at Treasures of Bolinao which is the nearest resort to White Beach. Well, the sands of White Beach are not fine compared to Boracay. It’s the one actually used in aquariums. Going farther from the shoreline, there are rocks underwater which makes it not suitable for swimming. The beach is good for sun basking. Just lie down on the shoreline with your shades on. Aside from that you can also enjoy watching the beautiful school of fish as they swim from different directions just near the shoreline. And if you want to be a little serious with that, do not forget to bring your goggles and snorkling gear. :D

But for those who wanted to enjoy real swimming, there’s a swimming pool at the Treasures of Bolinao that you can enjoy.

Thanks for this review. I’ve always wanted to go here but hearing mixed reviews… I heard that there was this nice new resort that I’m not sure if it was constructed already.

been there last weekend…the place is great. It pays the long journey. I like to share some pictures but i can not post it here. “MOD”-can i send it to you?

John Long » May 1st, 2006 at 1:14 pm

Puertio Del Sol in Bolinao is the best resort in the area. I heard it’s membership though. Its the escapades of most celebrities nowadays getting away from the commercialism of Boracay which really freaks me out.

pia ernestine » May 2nd, 2006 at 5:38 pm

We’ve just been to Treasures of Bolinao this weekend. The place is too far and the road leading to the resort is rough. When we made the reservations, we were told that the cottages have 2 air-conditioned rooms. When we got there we discovered that the cottages have one air-conditioned room and one room with electric fan only! The pool has salt water, even the water from the faucet is salt water! Worst thing is that there were times that there was no water coming out of the faucet, and we’ve experienced this while taking a bath!!!

As for the beach, we had to walk to the other resorts’ beach fronts in order to enjoy it. Treasures of Bolinao’s beach front is rocky!

the treasures of bolinao beach resort is very disappointing. the staff and even the owners are very sarcastic to their guests. they use saltwater even in the bathrooms. then there was 1 whole day when there wasn’t even any running water in the bathrooms.

the beach of bolinao is a different matter. it is very nice and could be compared to boracay. unfortunately, my experience in the treasures of bolinao beach resort had turned me off in going back to this place.

maze » May 8th, 2006 at 1:04 pm

I agree with pia ernestine and iris about treasures of bolinao. It is really one big DISAPPOINTMENT. Poor ang service at unfriendly ang staff. Matutulog na lang kami hindi pa nalalagyan ng bedsheet, blankets & pillows ang aming room, despite several followups. I don’t think that they are too busy that time coz it is a friday, most of their guests arrived saturday. Ung 2-bedroom cottage nila, sa taas lang may CR, so if u need to use the CR during the wee hours of the morning kakatukin mo pa ung natutulog sa taas or lalabas ka ng cottage. You cannot even change clothes in the bedroom downstairs kasi open siya, so it cannot be considered a room, ang best description sa kanya ay “SILONG ng bahay na nilagyan ng kama”. WORST of all, the water from the shower and faucet is also salt water! Imagine, after a long day at the beach you take a shower to freshen up pero salt water din pala gagamitin mo, even for brushing your teeth! Ung beach mabato, we had to walk to the nearby beach resorts to swim. The pool, salt water din. The only entertainment available is the videoke, but take note, walang number 3 and 0, haaay.

Treasures of bolinao is definitely not worth your money, time and energy….. NOT WORTH THE TRIP!

Treasure of Bolinao will be having a huge upgrade this year. We stopped by to inquire their services last April 2006 We actually talked to the architect/engineer who was happened sitting in one of th e cottages and told us the place will be torn down this year. I actually do not know if the place is totally closed during the construction,I don’t want to give you wrong information, but this is what I know. So if you want to check the place in the future there will be difinitely a huge change for the better to those who were not happy in the past. I am one of the locals of Bolinao and now resides in the U.S for quite sometime. I have vacationed in Hawaii so many times, and still do, i stil go back to this place every chance I get. The place is paradise,it has it’s own character that deserved in it’s own right to be proud of.

Hi to everyone in this thread. Anybody interested in going to Bolinao and looking for an alternative resort can contact me at 0920 911 9523. We have accomodations near the beach front located in Brgy. Estanza, Bolinao. Accomodations are not that luxurious as that of Puerto del Sol but the rates are very affordable and reasonable. We also have a swimming pool there. Snorkling and diving packages are also offered by our resort. Water is not a problem. A genset is also on standby in case of brownouts.
You are most welcome to bring in your own food and beverage and free to cook your own baon in the grill/kitchen near the cottages.

Our resort is Villa Soledad Beach Resort. We would be most happy to serve you.

Not worth staying at Treasures of Bolinao for the price of their rooms and the food. Nothing special. Very ordinary. They should lower their price. Patar beach is nice though.

superghurl » November 2nd, 2006 at 12:34 am

patar beach is one place to go to.. da best ung water even d waves. stayed at treasures of bolinao. d price isn’t really reasonable but was a good talker kaya gud discount from the owner. hehe.. d whole resort was only occupied by our group. of course it was off-peak but d weather so kind for a good swim, sunbathing plus pic taking.. anyone will love d place.:)

have u been there in puerto del sol already?
what did you find out, is it rocky?

thanks,

Well..i think you missed the hottest spot of the white beach in Bolinao..You go straight ahead towards that Treasures of Bolinao, near the light house and you will see the virgin beach there almost like Boracay..actually my friends enjoyed the ambience here than boracay because its more private..they even went surfing because there are days when waves are really huge, perfect for surfing…check it out..must see!

Miguel » December 9th, 2006 at 1:41 am

Dear reader,

I would like to share our holiday experience at Puerto Del Sol, Bolinao, Pangasinan. The first impression we have by visiting their web site is impressive. Our family and friends decided to fit in a few days break at Puerto Del Sol for our three weeks vacation. Upon arriving we have been greeted by a rude security guard with a gun. It’s frightening. The entrance ambiance is welcoming. We then proceed to the reception. The staff welcomed with unfriendly look. We were asked to fill in the registration form in a humid reception room, smell pungent and dirty table. Prior to our travel to Philippines, we made reservation on line and also made a phone call of confirmation. It has been confirmed to us that our booking was secured. To our amazement, while we were at the front office the receptionist/ manager somehow can not locate our bookings. How amazing. They eventually solved the problem. They allocate us at high end of their accommodation. This is the beginning of our nightmare holiday. An air condition not working and water smells similar to slugs in a pool. The toilet is not even match a standard of an ordinary Filipino sanitary, smell pungent and dirty. My daughter prefer to use a public toilet. It seems the towels not been washed hygienically. After staying a night at that so called Presidential room, we develop itchiness and skin rashes. We later found out it was caused by a bed bugs bite. The testimony on their advert does not truly reflect the reality. The beach of which they claimed white sand, it is not. It is full of rocks and sharp, three feet high water similar to a puddle and full algae.

We have our lunch and dinner at the Resort. We are delighted with the overall quality of the food so as the staff who served us. It happens the owner was present. We refer to her our concern, but to our disappointment she turn a blind eye on the real problem. The owner demonstrate a can buy attitude, foul language and obnoxious attitude. We feel sorry to the people who have been mislead by this Puerto Del Sol of Bolinao. We have been in few places in beautiful Philippines and nothing worst than Puerto De Sol.

The consolation we experienced is a breakfast of where equal to a Point Point restaurant.
Do not get me wrong. The place without doubt, an enormous amount of time and energy have spent on it but poorly plan, manage and lady with arrogant attitude does enormous damage on the image of entire Bolinao resorts.

We were very disappointed almost annoyed. The Puerto Del Sol tariff is almost equal to a five star hotel and other resort in Subic. The service and facilities does not reflect the true rate of charges. It is very expensive and not even close to saying value for money. We are matured tourist and travel to Philippines and abroad extensively. We are ashamed to mention Puerto Del Sol to our friends, colleagues and acquaintances.

Melit » December 15th, 2006 at 7:02 am

Hi, when I hear a story like Miguel is heart breaking. Well, we had similar experience with Puerto Del Sol. Don’t need to elaborate. A place do not deserve credit, don’t you think. The place that you must not miss to visit is the public beach near the light house. It is the end of the road. A bit of a distance. Just hire a cottage for a day. Its ideal for picnic and its cheap, I mean not expensive. It is a real beach. Clean water, adult and children can swim, surfing and snorkling of which not possible at Puerto Del Sol and other beach resort we visited.

hello people…
i considered all your comments…same here im planning to visit this place …ive been there before when no resorts were made yet..and its really nice and clean relaxing.like untouch beach yet..
i consider not to stay on that resort puerto del sol..cause im sure those comments are really true especially from mr miguel.

though some parts especially near the light house will be nice to stay..just have a cottage and sure your family will enjoy it….
the money you will spend in that puerto del sol…will not compensate what will you have experience….so i advice you to look for alternatives….dont bite those adds from the billboards…take it from personal experiences…

so try to visit the place and dont consider those resort whose “welcomes and goodbyes” are not worth…

hi, i’ve been reading the posts & i would just like to say that we have been going back to bolinao for almost 4 years now for our vacation. We always stay at villa soledad. It’s true that its not as polished as puerto del sol but we like the serenity & simplicity that it offers. The beachfront isn’t as deep & the sand isn’t as white but its still fun to just put your goggles on & watch the diff. kinds of fish swim by. i do hope though that they place tv sets on the rooms, it could get really quiet during the evenings & kahit na naka0-vacation kasi, it would still be nice to know what’s going on…

Me and my two friends had a long holiday vacation at Punta Riviera Resort at Bolinao, Pangasinan. Their Manager Gener (mob - 09185917148)is so nice and the resort is unusual because the infinity pool overlooks both the beachfront and the River Ilog Malino. We went paddling up the river on small bancas. They have a bridge over to a Kanda Roma on the beach so you can watch the sunset sipping a Mango Colada. The rooms are clean, nice, the Pinoy food was great -try their dorado. They just built three riverside rooms that we stayed in. Fantastic holiday. Their web site is http://www.puntarivieraresort.com

They are booking us at a bamboo house airconditioned unit good for 4 people but you can add mattress at 50.00/head. This is the first time we are going so I hope I could give you a feed back. hi everyone. i just like to comment about puerto del sol.
i’ve learned my consumer’s rights way back high school. so i don’t fail to complain if i know i need to. i’m a mother of 2 and a new member of puerto del sol. before we went there, my husband and i read all your posts.
all i can say..they’re ok naman na or they have improved na since there were complaints back then.
my 2 kids enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, the playground, the beach, etc. i’m not just saying this because i am a member. honestly, i can just stop paying for the membership if we weren’t satisfied. mahal nga lang ang food, accommodation but that’s the price you have to pay for such facilities. pero let’s just say in general, bolinao is a great place. and we look forward in going back. actually my husband and i already decided to celebrate our anniversary there next year.
we also went to the lighthouse, Patar white Beach, even had our lunch at punta riviera before going back home to see also the place mentioned here. food is good, mas cheaper pati room rates of course cheaper. san man kayo mag-stay dun, what matters most is you have visited bolinao. maganda pala dun. sabagay marami naman talagang maganda sa Pilipinas diba? so i just hope you’ll enjoy your stay in bolinao just like we did. next stop next week…www.bluecoral.org in san juan laiya batangas.

Our “NOT SO GREAT” experiences in Treasures of Bolinao:
1. Unhelpful and unaccomodating staffs. The reason, all are newly hired OJTs (no pay), hmmm cost cutting? “lucky owner!”
2. Food prices are high, very very high. In fact, breakfast is 199 which they serve 3 FISHBALL-SIZED pcs COLD longanisa, 2pcs COLD cute danggit, 1 COLD fried egg, 3pcs COLD pan bread. But they made it up for the HOT coffee anyway, “applause!” Although they claimed that to be 2 orders already. “Amazing!”
3. A “not so unassuming” owner to start our vacation trip. We inquired weeks before about a more cheaper room but finally settled for the suite. We had reserved the suite, the classy one w/ a view, paid the downpayment, and was excited when we arrived, only to find out we will stay at a budget cottage room. Confused? Oh, that’s because the owner “ASSUMED” we like the cheaper one. “Great!”
4. A “not so unassuming” owner, YES I second the motion. We inquired about the scenario of staying juz one night instead of the reserved 2 nights. And straight from the horse’s mouth, “Juz let me knw”. We continued our vacation, when during lunch next day, shocking news, the owner, again, “ASSUMED” we were leaving. “Grreeeaaatttt!”
5. Madami pa, secret nalng. Bka maging Hidden treasures of bolinao. In fairness, nice and relaxing place. good to go back. JUZ BRING UR OWN FOOD AND PAY FOR THE SMALL AMT OF CORKAGE, AND DONT ASK for MORE QUESTIONS WHEN NOT NECESSARY.

You are precious

What did we know? What did we need to know? What I did not know? What was wrong? No wonder why the Filipinos are being treated and branded a third class citizen due to their negative outlook at work, social and life in general. The negativity can cause a far damaging impact on the economic and social well being of the Filipinos. The future of our very own TOURISM will be in jeopardy. Neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Malayasia have a well planned programme conditioning their citizens to welcome their tourism industry. Everybody participated and do their civic duties. They recognized the contribution of tourism to their well being. The benefits are immense to everyone, from small child selling ice cream to a grand mother who wash clothes from local resorts and fishermen who supply fish and so on. Thanks, they are forward thinker with positive outlook. We Filipinos have to compete the outside world. We no longer live in a small an secluded island. The internet world echoed all feelings we noted. Being outspoken is a right for freedom of expression, but not an obligation to use and to abuse to portrait negative image of your own tourism. Let us embrace supporting our tourism and be a member of a proud, respected Filipinos to every corner of the world.

We have to study our innerself and ask probing questions. There were know knowns, things that you knew you knew There were know unknowns, things that you knew you did not know you knew. There were unknown unknowns, things that you did not know you did not know.

if i could’ve insanely cursed at the people at this place, i would’ve had!!!! there service was SO TERRIBLE my fists were just itching to beat the crap out’ov someone. the place is expensive (it’s just ludicrous) and you expect to get a lot for what you’ve paid for but no, they don’t even know what service means. they are totally understaffed and you could hardly call the people who work there employees; they’re all friggin interns!!! they didn’t have any sense of direction (if you know what i mean)…the place looked divine, well maintained and it’s shameful how this front could knock you off into going there. their manager was this gay dude who was trying so hard to speak in english…c’mon, what’s the deal?! just a sh!tload of bull!!…what really killed it for me was the food…we waited for what seemed like eternity and finally when we got them, gosh! the food at the carinderia n turo2 where i eat is waaaay better than theirs! and they were supposed to be the most expensive resort @ bolinao?! to hell with this place!!…i ain’t definitely recommending this place to nobody.

OH, I WAS TALKING ABOUT “TREASURES OF BOLINAO” BY THE WAY.

kathy simundo » April 9th, 2007 at 8:19 pm

hi! we just got back from bolinao yesterday and we stayed at Rock Garden beach resort (thanks for the tip Romae :) okay naman ang bamboo house nila. And we were accomodated by this nice, young lady Kim, who was very patient with my pangungulit to book us at the last minute. If you’re on a tight budget and you just want to relax and enjoy the beach, you can ask for Kim at Rock Garden Resort to book you. She’s really nice and hindi bastos. Ok na din ang rate ng bamboo house nila at P1,500 overnite stay for four people and additional P50/head in excess of four. It can house 20 people, at least if they’re willing to bring their own beds and kumot to sleep in the sala because the airconditioned room can accomodate up to 7 people only. And another tip, you can ask for this Ronnie guy who offers a whole day “ecological land tour”. I think its four destinations (enchanted cave, patar white beach, balingasa river and this old lighthouse). We weren’t able to avail of this tour, though when we come back in may, it will be part of the itinerary na.
Another tip for you guys out there. Wag kayong mag-stopover sa Jollibee alaminos kung ayaw nyong masira ang araw niyo at masayang ang isang oras ninyo sa pag-aantay. Because the service at that branch is really bad. They will get your order and make you wait for one-hour for a pancake that can be cooked in less than 5mins. there was this one lady who kicked the glass door so hard sa sobrang galit, and this one guy who waited in line for almost an hour for a brewed coffee he was told was available. but when he asked again, the service crew told him they don’t serve brewed coffee. He walked out sa sobrang galit. Grabe talaga. Nakakahiya ang jollibee alaminos. Calling customer care dept of jollibee to please look into this matter.

let me share my experiences about the so-called “most expensive resort” in bolinao.

for one, the villa where we were billeted looks ok outside. but i was disgusted to see the bathroom, it’s not even “presentable” (given the room rate). the sink was not properly attached to the wall and might fall anytime…in most provincial hotels, u can get a lot better than that…to think, the resort charges an additional 10% service charge and 12% EVAT..the EVAT was understandable, but the 10% service charge??? gosh..insanely ridiculous..what was it for? i dont know..we stayed there for 3 days, and nobody from housekeeping changed the beddings, swept the floor, or even collected the trash…or was there any housekeeping dept. at all????

the food was another concern. since there are no other place where one can get food, got no choice but to order from the resort’s restaurant. we were told that food can be ordered ahead, just tell them the time when to serve the order and where. we ordered around 5:30pm and asked to serve it by 6:30pm..the time came and no food arrived. we made a follow-up and the waiter told us “ise serve na po”. it was served almost an hour and a half later…the food is not even cheap…imagine a medium-sized daing na bangus costs 199 pesos. and a cup of coffee is 35 pesos plus 10% service charge. its not even brewed coffee, just 3-in-1.

and lastly, and certainly the most unforgiveable of all, was when we passed by the front office and were suddenly asked by the staff to see the manager inside. when i came in, the manager asked if we were walk-in clients..told him otherwise and that we checked-in the other day..although he apologized for the confusion, what made me ticked with madness was the way he referred to people as “bastos kasi ang mga tao dito, basta na lang pumapasok ng di dumadaan sa office”. it’s so offensive. the manager should have said it in a nicer way. and i’ve noticed also that he’s fond of addressing his people as “hoy”…i guess the manager should attend a seminar on customer service and GMRC. oh by the way, the manager is also the owner of the resort.

i’ll definitely not recommend this “most expensive” resort to anyone whose planning to go bolinao.

hi, i’ve been reading the posts & i would just like to say that we have been going back to bolinao for almost 4 years now for our vacation.

Punta Riviera is next to white sand beach and island and river Ilog Malino. The site is beautiful with nice lanscaping and very romantic. The resort is new, clean and the food and service is good but slow to deliver our dinners at Easter. They just build new kitchens that speed up delivery.

well..bolinao is my hometown. summers are usually spent there and even in the 60’s, the beaches are really great. the only problem is accommodation and food. since the 90’s there has been a resurgence of tourism related businesses in the area. so we now have the trendy resorts …

still, i hope that the houses of the residents will be opened to the tourists for their home stay program to augment the lack of faclities. and hopefully, scuba diving will be developed to enjoy the reefs of bolinao.

hopefully, my uncle’s Long Beach Resort will be renovated soon…

patar white beach is really very nice, it’s worth every minute we spent driving through the rough road which precedes it. check out our pics in my friendster account. we stayed in a quaint nipa hut (but with 4bedrooms and a big kitchen and veranda)overlooking the sea. it’s called del rio rest house and it’s owned by an american named tomas. we had a relaxing time mainly because the beach was basically deserted (the cottage has its own beach). its waaaaay cheaper than treasures of bolinao and much much nicer (they dont have a pool but with the vast ocean just below you, who cares?) here’s the contact number: kuya bing the caretaker - 09194372080

Wow talaga ang Patar, Bolinao. Ang ganda, especially watching the perfect sun set. There is nothing in the world looks like it. We stayed at Treasures of Bolinao, its amazing the sea front is infront of our room. We really had a good time and enjoyed, the place is beautiful. Thank you guys for looking after us. We are very happy of everything with Treasures of Bolinao. Our team building meeting will again reserve to a priority at your place. A million thanks

try going to the patar white sand beach.. it is next to the lighthouse… price is very reasonable… 500 pesos for a whole day stay at a big hut.. 250 for smaller one.. and 1500 for a house.. there are also great places there such as bunyacao cave which is located in bani.. an hour and a half drive from bolinao.. going to patar is very easy.. it is very close to bolinao.. and geezz… the beach is worth the wait… love it!!

hehe » April 25th, 2007 at 8:11 pm

meron po ba kayong contacts dito?

Roland » April 25th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Natural Aquarium

But for those who wanted to enjoy real swimming, there’s a swimming pool at the Treasures of Bolinao that you can enjoy.

hello people…
i considered all your comments…same here im planning to visit this place …ive been there before when no resorts were made yet..and its really nice and clean relaxing.like untouch beach yet..
i consider not to stay on that resort puerto del sol..cause im sure those comments are really true especially from mr miguel.

though some parts especially near the light house will be nice to stay..just have a cottage and sure your family will enjoy it….
the money you will spend in that puerto del sol…will not compensate what will you have experience….so i advice you to look for alternatives….dont bite those adds from the billboards…take it from personal experiences…

so try to visit the place and dont consider those resort whose “welcomes and goodbyes” are not worth.

A resort to visit is Punta Riviera Resort http://www.puntarivieraresort.com

We went to Hundred Island and stayed with our friend Danil’s grandma place in Brgy Lucap. Maganda talaga ang Pangasinan. Masipag at mabait pati ang mga tao. After 2 days we travel further to Bolinao to meet our workmate. On our way to Brgy Patar, we first had our refreshing halo halo at Aling Ising and visit the 15th century old church. We also visited the market. We are surprised with the abundant and different exotic fish they have in the market. We bought yellow fin tuna, sea weeds, milk fish, mango and some vegetables. It makes us buy all those delicious food in the market. We spent a lot. While we were in the market, our boss “sir Jun” rang us to hurry up and join them at Treasures of Bolinao. Sorry sir we missed the dance contest. Anyway, we arrived at the resort at around 1pm. Waaa ang ganda. A guy with a hawaiian uniform greeted us and directed us to the reception. We then welcome by the manager and immediately inform our workmate of our present. We mention we have food for the party. The manager ask the staff to help us unload our things. We then ask if we can ask the chef to do our food shopping. He agreed with a minimal charge for bringing our seafood. We grilled the tuna and bangus wow feeling like owning the place. Ang sarap. While some of us drinking and grilling, others are busy playing chess and volleyball. In the evening we had a singing contest and open drinks by the swimming pool. Others went to swim in front of the resort which is a clean beach.

Our stay at Treasures of Bolinao is one of a kind. Sir Jun the team wishes to celebrate 40 years of the company at this resort. We really had a enjoyable time. Good food, well cared for serve, clean accommodation and place beautiful. The Treausures of Bolinao is truly a treasures of Bolinao if not may be Pangasinan. Thank you for looking after us. Everyone enjoyed. Remember we will come back soon and don’t forget to ready our very own grill- Philip

we had our team building @ punta riviera resort and i can say this place is great. nice ang food ayoko lang yung specialty nila na dinakdakan. great place but the water in the pool is a little bit salty even sa bathrooms nila but based from what i read from the other post ganon siguro sa lahat ng resort dun they used sea water. super clear water but malyo na nalalakad mo mababaw pa rin. you can visit their website http://www.puntariviera.com

Henry Soriano » May 8th, 2007 at 12:43 am

Punta Riviera Resort is full of lies. Neil is right. Don’t buy those “welcomes and goodbye” advert eithier from bill board or website. The water is salty everywhere from bathroom, swimming pool and showers. It is expensive, not worth staying that resort- managers, staff are naive.

I recommend you bring your own water if you go to Punta Riviera.

Honestly, we would have been better off swimming at the beach near the light house where native cottages hire for very cheap. They have not salty water just basic. At least its honest and not over priced.

Come and see us and invest. We can guarantee 100% return of investment within 16 months. Instead of investing on resort make an investment with us.

Hey - Hendry!
Actually Neil was talking about bad experiences at Puerto Del Sol. So tell us then, why did you go to such expensive resorts when you have vested interests in native cottages near the light house? Do you have electricity yet, air conditioning and back up generators? What about security? Your story lacks both credibility and objectivity. Do you think that we readers are as clever as you are?

Miguel return » May 9th, 2007 at 7:08 am

We are ashamed to mention Puerto Del Sol to our friends, colleagues and acquaintances.

greyzie » May 16th, 2007 at 8:11 am

We just got back from bolinao last night and we stayed at puerto del sol resort.its actually 5-6 hrs drive from manila approximately 300km from our place quirino highway near balintawak..well..as for us..we didnt much enjoy the place because were a beach lover but the beachfront of puerto del sol in not good for swimming..we arrive around 2pm and it was low tide. its sand are cream in color..but u can feel that it was really a peaceful place..u can think, breathe and just enjoy looking at the beach..

Puerto del sol resort,i can say that it was nice, the pool, the jacuzzi thou it wasnt that warm. u can enjoy the nice garden and landscape. The time we went there was not that crowded probably because its a weekday and election at the same time. The room facilities were okay except for a hot/cold shower not functioning, the other light switch also. We stayed at mansion villa enough for 4 people. But if ure going to check on their rates, its not that worth it because you can still can have the same nice accomodation without travelling 6 hrs to other tourist spot. theres no quite extra ordinary to this place or something unusual.Well thats for us since i’ve mentioned were after the beach. The restaurant a bit pricey and theres no other store nearby. The people in the resort were not rude but not that accomodating.

After we check out we went to Enchanted cave located at patar, bolinao. I appreciate the coconut trees, it was really nice just like in villa escudero..We payed 10/head and 20 for parking because were not going to swim.we just wanted to see the cave. But i know its 20/head if you’re going to stay and swim. But since we have our one yr old with us, were not able to swim and if u have kids with you, its not that safe but it was nice and it was told that the water is cold good for dipping without getting sunburn! :)

Dont forget to check on abrak, patar white beach..around 30 more minutes from enchanted cave. it a public beach..we pay 30 for the parking and 150 for a nipa hut for lunch..there u can find a good beach to swim..its not actually that white but much better than that of puerto del sol beachfront. u have to bring your own food because theres no resto or even a turo-turo. Were not able to swim beacuse its was so so so hot then.theres accomodation for overnight guest but a fan room only around 1,500/night. we were not able to extend another night because we prefered to have an aircon room. Its near treasures of bolinao but i guess its far more better to stay on this public beach because of its nice beachfront at much cheaper rates. My hubby and i wonder why puerto del sol didnt choose this beachfront even treasures of bolinao.

We drop by at the lighthouse but it was close so we just enjoy the sceneries going back to manila.we were not able to check the samang(bolinao)/tara falls. Overall..for us..bolinao for me is good for a one time visit, travel time is tiring..theres no much activities to this place but in fairness to all from bolinao they have spots good to visit and in a way it was a good experience for us..

this is just our experience, to those who have more fun experience than us..good for you..:)

I had already booked our stay in Puerto del Sol from May 17-18 before bumping into some of the bad reviews of the place. Having paid and packed, I had no choice but to expect the worse from the place.

However, our stay in the resort (thank GOd) was the exact opposite of the bad experiences posted here and I can honestly say that we were not disappointed. We did our bookings at their office in their Ortigas Center office and it was straightforward.

After 5-1/2 hours of driving and a very short stretch of dirt road at the end, we finally arrive at the resort and park our vehicle just across the entrance at a lot exclusively for guests. We were 3 hours early (check in time is 2pm) but were hoping to check in early.

We were greeted with a smile and a good morning by the guard who courteously pointed us to the front desk. The clerks were quite amiable and apologetic for not being able to provide us with a room at that time, but suggested that we take our lunch at the cafe or start using the facilities. We were then welcomed with a drink (buko juice) and shell necklaces.

Being a swimmer/diver, the waters of the beach and the pool must be clean before I give it a thumbs up and allow me and my finally to jump in. The sun was scorching hot (10:30am) and so was the temperature of the pool water. THe water temp reminded me of those Los Banos hot springs. Nevertheless, we jumped in and braved the heat. Two bad things though- the swimming pool area had no shaded area during the hottest hours of the day which meant compulsory sunburn for all. Secondly, there’s a big sign that says proper attire required for swimming —-NOT! There were some Korean boys who decided to jump in in their clothes (pants/long sleeves) and no one was ever there to enforce it. But the charm of the place is enough to block out this minor annoyances.

The resort also had a outdoor jacuzzi which was operational 9-11 mornings and 7-9 at night. However, if company outings or big groups were present at the day, chances are no jacuzzi for you. However, the group that day were conscientious enough to allow us time to use it.

PART 2 …to follow

We just got back from our visit to Punta Riviera over the weekend & I must commend them for the warm & attentive service of the staff. I liked the place, its ambience, the way it was designed, esp. their infinity pool which makes for a good photo-op for sunset. We got the family room & it was spacious enough to accommodate 10 people. (actually, kahit cguro 15 people pwede dun) The food was good & wasn’t expensive naman, tama lang. The beach was fine, since we’ve been going back to bolinao the past years, we knew what to expect of the beach na. Although I think mas may life ang shores sa harap ng Villa Soledad. (that’s where we used to go) We were able to put up a tent & do some fishing sa “ilog” side, although we didn’t catch anything big. :D

I thought at first the rates for Punta Riviera was a little higher that Villa Soledad’s but when we got there, na-justify naman nila with the service & the beauty of the place.

For Jill, you were thinking of going to Villa Soledad… its not such a bad place coz we enjoyed our previous stays there. The place is more quiet & the accomm. aren’t as ganda as that of Punta Riviera’s but it has its charms. We like it there coz everytime we go there, its like our private resort coz there aren’t that many visitors na kasabay kami.

It appears that most of the travel blog experiences are self made appraisal. It sounds too obvious semilar to saying “good morning to myself”. As a potential visitor to your place in Bolinao, we very much like to read genuine comments. I have not been to Bolinao, but by reading those comments I am bit suspecious the genuinity of description. Which resort is bitted good value for money? I presume most of recommendations will be coming from resorts of Bolinao rather than an non bias comments from a genuine past visitor.

Puerto del sol resort,i can say that it was nice, the pool, the jacuzzi thou it wasnt that warm. u can enjoy the nice garden and landscape UNLIKE PUNTA RIVIERA.

But since we have our one yr old with us, were not able to swim and if u have kids with you, its not that safe but it was nice and it was told that the water is cold good for dipping without getting sunburn!

i dont know what happening here, since i visited this travel blog site u dont know to whom you believe, jill is such a lier, discover bolinao by going personally to the place do not rely on what the blog is, i do not want to mention any of the resort hotel in bolinao were we stay, but a very expensive hotel like puerto del sol is not worthwhile it is like they steel your money. im telling the truth go and you yourself will prove it.

maverick » June 17th, 2007 at 3:02 pm

and furthermore be careful to your expensive belongings to puerto del sol baka dekwatin din nila, i was there when one of the guest complaining lost of his money to her wallet that he leftr in the room.

To Merick / Angel
I have stayed at all of the three resorts in this area
that you mention and can honestly say they are all modern and very nice. The service varies a bit and is not perfect especially during the April - May busy season when all resorts are extremely busy. You can describe the service as Provincial and rustic and friendly. Agreed - it can be slow but what the heck - this is not Manila.
The locals are all villagers and also relaxed and laid-back The area is beautiful, the coastline has good coral reef features, there are several underground caves to swim in, the beaches a creamy white colour and the sea a deep torquise - blue, great seafood is available from Bolinao market daily. The Sunshine Coast here faces West hence big sunsets occur regularly.
The area compares well with other areas in the Philippines and is more accessible than most of the islands to the South. Choose a resort with a good pool as the sea is shallow. Don’t be put off by negative comments from dubious sources - follow your instincts. This is an ideal area to come to relax and experience nature at its best irrespective of what resort you choose to stay in.
Regards from the Sunshine Coast

I agree with Sunshine Coast comments. Most of the resort in Bolinao if not all deseve a positive praise. I have myself stayed at few resorts in Bolinao and proved to be alright. Standard is in fact much better that of in the South. At times, there might have sub standard service but doesn’t mean present the whole Bolinao resort at all times. The room tariff and other charges in Bolinao is lower than resort in Boracay, Puerto Princesa in Palawan, Subic and few areas in Mindanao. We travel extensively around Philippines and found Bolinao a fresh, not commercialize beach destination. Anyone who wishes to have a break in a secluded, virgin and laid back environment Bolinao should be in top 10 of the list. There are few historical landmarks such as the very old church in town, picturique chanel, underground pool, falls, Patar Beach and well preserved light house. Their market is abundant of fresh sea food especially seaweeds. This is something we really enjoyed especially with locals honest and warm welcome.

However, you have to see this unspoiled, virgin and remote beach. Good luck and hope also to read your experience at Bolinao.

well, i’m pretty sure naman that all the posts here are based on actual experiences… bahala na kayo if you’ll believe them or not but the best way to find out is to experience the place/resorts yourself. Basta ako, i enjoyed our stay in Punta Riviera and will refer it to our friends looking for a place to go to dyan sa Bolinao. I would also recommend Villa Soledad, although its not as upscale as Punta Riviera, it has its charms if you’re into quiet & rest lang talaga. enjoy! :)

Wow, ang ganda talaga our visit at Patar beach. We have seen a movie X44 by Bong Navaro and promted us to visit this place. The movie named the beach wikiki beach but it is not. We later found out that is Patar beach near the light house. We stayed at Treasures beach resort. We had the chance to enjoy at this resort where the film shooting was done. Maganda talage, feeling like in paradise. The place is actually looks more beautiful in actual than in a movie. A bit expensive for Filipino average income, but hey who cares as long as we are satisfied with the place and service. It is quiet, ideal for total relaxiation. Water at pool and sea is clean and warm can even swim in the evening. I recommend to anybody this unspoiled and beautiful place.
