La Mesa Ecopark

Who would have thought that beneath the hustle and bustle of a very busy city in Metro Manila lies an ecological park where one can commune with nature, take a dip into the cold water of a pool surrounded by huge trees, get together with family and friends, experience boating ala Burnham park in Baguio City, bike their way to good health, or simply while away time? Believe it or not, there is such place right in the heart of Fairview in Quezon City and it is called the La Mesa Ecopark.

LaMesa Ecopark.jpg

The La Mesa Ecopark is located in East Fairview Subdivision, in Quezon City. It is in the heart of the La Mesa Dam Watershed which is the source of the Metro Manila water supply. The park which used to be a neglected area was recently developed to become a haven where Quezon City folks could escape from the euphoria of urban living. The entrace fee to the La Mesa Ecopark is very affordable P40/adult. Quezon City residents who can present valid ID are even treated to a discounted rate of P20/adult.

LaMesa Ecopark.jpg
Once inside the La Mesa Dam Eco park, the first thing that would greet you is the abundance of huge trees that line up a small asphalted road leading to the main park. Inside the main park, there are practically everything that you could wish for in a nature park. The picnic area is a spacious area covered by the canopies of tress providing a much needed shade under the sun.

Another attraction of the La Mesa Eco Park, is a fishing lagoon where one can enjoy the experience of actual fishing. There are fishing rods available for rent and when you are lucky to catch a fish, you can pay for your catch for a fee of P80/kilo. Perfect for lunch!

Aside from this fishing lagoon, there is also an ochidarium where various plant species can be found. Adjacent to this orchidarium is an amphiteater of sorts, where concerts and other events can be held.

LaMesa Ecopark.jpg
The La Mesa Ecopark also rents out function halls or pavillions where parties and other celebrations can be held.

There is also a biking area where families can enjoy biking together within the ecopark. Biking rates are pegged P50/hour (Kiddie Bike), P60/hour (BMX)
P70/hour (Sidecar).

Now, comes the 50 year old swimming pool, where one can enjoy the warm water amidts the cool weather provided by the trees. Entrance to the pool is P60/adult and P30 for kids 4.5 below. A bit of advice though, if you are going there on a weekend, make sure to come early since the pool is not that big enough to accomadate a huge volume of swimmers. As early as 9 am on a Sunday, the La Mesa Ecopark administrators had to stop accomodating swimmers since there were already more than a hundred of people inside.

Overall, the La Mesa Dam Ecopark is a very good place to unwind and relax on a Sunday afternoon. A cheaper alternative to posh urban resorts sprawling all over Metro Manila and the nearby suburbs.

For more information, visit http://www.abs-cbnfoundation.com/kalikasan/ecopark.htm.

To get there, here is the location map.

La Mesa Dam has been generating interests among the public looking for an alternative to malls. But even for long time resident of Metro Manila like me we were given enough information in how to find it online. Your link to it’s location map is not working.

The eco park is generating so much interest from a lot of people but, just like me, they don’t know how to get there. Most of the comments posted here are asking for directions on how to get there as the link to the map is not working. But the administrator or the website owner is not interested as there was no response to the queries. Knock Knock, gumising naman kayo!!!!

badilong » November 6th, 2006 at 2:10 am

jhoyskee » November 6th, 2006 at 9:29 am

HOW TO GET THERE
Take Commonwealth Avenue towards Fairview. You will be passing the following landmarks: UP Diliman, Iglesia ni Cristo Templo Central, Ever Gotesco, Sandiganbayan, Litex, Mercury Drugstore. Turn right at East Fairview Subdivision’s Winston St. then right at Marlboro St. all the way to Pall Mall St. where you should turn left. Turn right at the first corner. You will enter the La Mesa Dam Guard House. There is only one road to take then turn left to the parking lot, in front of which is the gate to the park. The lagoon is further down the path.

For commuters, take a Fairview-bound FX, bus, or jeepney from Philcoa by the entrance to the University of the Philippines. Take note of the abovementioned landmarks and get off at the East Fairview Subdivision. At the gate, you should find plenty of tricycles that can take you to the Eco Park.

For details on how to go trekking at the eco-trail, call 410-9670

Can anyone pls tell me if it’s open? we dont wanna be disappointed taking trouble going there only to find it closed, since we’ll be coming from Australia. Our plane is leaving for bangkok tonight. from there we’ll take plane to Manila. Please tell me how to get to ecopark from NAIA. thanks.

Dexter Huinda » April 6th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

For those who plan to go there this holy week:

I texted someone from the Ecopark, he said the park is open for the whole lenten week. You can also text him (Dong) @ 09159013772.

In reply to Jonas:

The links I’ve posted above are links from the La Mesa website. I don’t know why they aren’t functioning all of a sudden. Their server must have been down for some reason.

I’ve managed to capture their admission rates somehow:

Click here to see the copy of their admission rates

I forgot to capture their map though, but if I do, I’ll post it here again.

Happy Lenten Season to everyone!

Dexter Huinda » April 13th, 2007 at 12:58 pm

In response to Maricel:

Yes iba iba ang bayad, iba ang entrance fee, iba din ang bayad sa iba ibang services na nasa loob. Para malaman mo ang mga “rates” o dapat bayaran, tingnan mo ang listahan nila dito sa internet address na ito:

http://www.huinda.net/lamesa.php

In response to eipz:

I’m not familiar with the routes coming from Valenzuela, you can however ask other people and guide you how to reach the QUEZON CITY CIRCLE where every route converges leading to the park.

Have an enjoyable trip to all!

Keep la mesa clean and green!! Don’t let billions of people suffer over a thousand beneficiaries.

julian » August 5th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

i hope the ecopark management can add more fishes on their pond. my & my kid were disatisfied — we were not able to catch 1 for 1hr. huh? kahit temporary lang sana para maexperience ng mga guests nyo ang biyaya ng kalikasan.

the site is perfect and well taken cared. malaki ang potential ng forest pero marami pang pwedeng gawin para maging more attractive such as: walkway improvement, shed kung umulan, carabao grass, birds nest/breeding center etc…

more power to ecopark management & sponsors

ano pong exact route papunta la mesa eco park, from caloocan, pag mag commute po ano pong dapt sakyan???ty poh pls reply thursday poh possible pagpunta ko…….

colay » August 28th, 2007 at 5:03 pm

At the gate, you should find plenty of tricycles that can take you to the Eco Park.

the la mesa eco park is located sa fairview, quezon city.
sa loob ng (East Fairview Subdivision)sorry guys di ko alam lahat ng way kung where ever you guys are coming from pero the fastest way going there ay sa commonwelth ave. in QC. diresto lang yun… medyo malayo-layo ng konti pag galing ka sa may QC circle. basta on the right side you’ll see a sign naman to the Eco Park. hope this will help a bit.

KCP420 » September 25th, 2007 at 7:57 pm

pag nasa loob na kayo ng subd. ask the guard na lang… hehehe for sure he’ll know it =)

correct me if i’m wrong. ang alam ko, pagpunta dun (pag galing q. ave)sakay ka ng jeep, fx, bus na sm fairview or caltex yung signboard. madadaanan mo yung philcoa, tatahakin mo yung commonwealth, malalagpasan mo ng ONTI yung fairview market, on your right side, makikita mo yung east fairview subd. if comute lang, may mga tryk dun na direcho ecopark na. pag car, follow the arrows leading to the ecopark. easy! ;-)

I want to see La mesa park but I don’t know how to get there. Which route do i take from makati in a car. In the print and TV ads on la mesa dam no directions are given on how to get there.

noel » April 22nd, 2008 at 11:05 am

Melanie » June 11th, 2008 at 9:26 am

Yes po. Meron pong mga tindahan doon. Last June8, 2008 lang nanggaling kami doon. First timer din kami. You can also bring tent.

Ipo Watershed » August 9th, 2008 at 11:36 pm

La Mesa Watershed is not the primary

source of water for the 12 million

residents of Metro Manila.

Most of the water in La Mesa Reservoir

comes fom Ipo and Angat Watersheds.

La mesa is just a “reservoir” of water

coming from Ipo and Angat Watersheds.

Please see this map:

http://upmencom.multiply.com/photos/al

bum/68/Watershed_Maps#2

La Mesa Watershed has 85% forest

cover and is improving while Ipo has

only 30% forest cover left!

Twelve percent of Metro Manila’s water

supply comes from Ipo Watershed while

only 4% comes from La Mesa

Watershed.

La mesa Watershed has a total land

area of about 2,700 hectares while Ipo

Watershed has 6,600 hectares. Ipo

Watershed has denuded areas

comparable to the size of the entire La

Mesa Watershed!

We hope that IPO DAM WATERSHED

can also be protected and rehabilitated

just like the smaller La Mesa Watershed.

whoa…i know an easy explanation for the route….
everyone who likes to go to La Mesa Ecopark from;
MAKATI route;
commuters take a ride on any bus with a signage of SM Fairview and then take off at City Oil Gas Station that is the landmark along Pearl St. terminal of tricycles going to the park awaits you. As much as possible do not take the WINSTON ST. (esp. those you have cars)its a private subdivision xpect for a fee.
hope that i help you guys….its fun to have leisure in Ecopark while helping to save LA MESA Watershed
