Things To Do In Cebu
I’m not sure whether “Cebu is THE Philippines’ leading tourist destination”, but the article from Go Asia: Asia for Visitors list of things to do in Cebu does sum up the best must-see’s in the island quite well.
The historical Colon Street take centerstage, of course. And the buzzing and fast-evolving Cebu shopping scene was f course not to be ignored. With the arrival of Ayala Center and SM City, shopaholics do not have to worry of getting withdrawal symptoms in Cebu.
The list also lists down all the historical monuments and museums worth seeing, which numbers quite a lot given the rich historical and cultural background of Cebu.
The third page lists down Cebu’s eating jaunts. A comprehensive list… except that I saw him list Pinakbet as a Cebuano dish. Ahermmm….
Also featured, and something which might be of interest to nature-lovers and those travelling with kids: the Jumalon Butterfly Sanctuary, the Olango Wildlife Sanctuary and the Crocolandia.
The sanctuary is a garden, the result of butterfly expert (otherwise known as a lepidopterist) Julian Jumalon’s work. Some 53 species of butterflies live in the sanctuary and most guests see ten to fifteen different species in an average visit. There is an attached butterfly art gallery and museum of sorts - and “the oldest existing collection of butterflies with specimens dating back to the 1930’s and some of the most wanted butterflies in the world.”
And of course, last but not the least, and probably one of the main attractions of Cebu: the beaches, of course! Take your pick, depending on your schedule and budget, from Olango Island, Sogod, Badian Island, Argao, and of course, for those who don’t want to stray afar, Mactan Island.
Don’t forget to get a pack of Dried Mangoes, and do check out Cebu’s internationally renowned guitars!
