Eden Nature Park
Definitely a must see place in Davao City. At more than 1500 ft above sea level this is Davao City’s own version of Baguio and Tagaytay. Because it has a breath taking view of the city, is enveloped by beautiful pine trees and has a cool breezy climate (I’d suggest bringing a jacket if you plan to stay past 5 PM)
It is about 28 km from the downtown area or 30 min travel time. From the City one must travel south towards the Toril District. At the corner of Mercury drug in the main highway, make a right and just follow the signs towards Barangay Eden (hence the name.) From there it is a 12 km uphill climb (don’t attempt this without topping off your radiator) consisting of asphalted, cemented and short stretches of dirt road. Having an off road vehicle is not required for this trip up to Eden.
The park is 95% man made, with the pine trees being cultivated and methodically planted. Only the main road which leads to the entrance, fishing village, swimming pool and birdpark are passable by private vehicles the rest must be traversed by foot or via the park shuttle’s.
Amenities & Sites Include: A Fishing Village, Campsite, Swimming Pool, Basketball Court, Rest Huts, Seminar Village, Amphitheater, Flower Garden, Deer Park, Aviary, Prayer Garden, Mountain Trail, Lola’s Garden, Hydroponics Greenhouse, Fruit Tree Orchard, Vista Kiosk, Garden Hall, Cafeteria, Playground, and a Seminar Hall. However it must be noted that the greatest attraction are the cool air and the view of the City.

Hey did I mention that the 2005 Davao Episode of Game Ka Na Ba was filmed at the Amphitheater? Yup the staff were so proud to have hosted Kris Aquino and son Josh there (One of the things they kept mentioning during the tour *snicker*). I have to mention also that the free range peacocks that roam the premises are an added attraction.
Hey even the toilet has an outdoor theme!
There are rooms, cottages, mountain villas and suites available for rent just incase you want to stay for the night or spend the entire day there. The price for accomodation ranges from Php 1260.00(rooms) ~ 12,000(mountain villa) per night. Entrance to the fishing village costs Php 50.00. The swimming pool costs Php 75.00 for adult and Php 50.00 for kids. Lunch and Dinner Buffet packages are available for Php 330 for adult and Php 180.00 for kids.
Outside the Resort is a Church where the Wedding Ceremony’s are held before proceeding to Eden for the Reception at the Vista Hall.
On a funny note, I asked the tour guide if the place and town before it was really named Eden, because it kinda stuck out like a sore thumb from the other town names and it reeked of marketing subterfuge. She explained that it was named after a beautiful resident of the town, Edeng. Her japanese husband couldn’t pronounce her name, hence her being called Eden. Because of her beauty the town was named after her. So I don’t really know if there is truth to that tale because I was half expecting her to answer that the place was being alluded to the Garden of Eden of Biblical fame. But who cares?, because it does add a certain mythos to the place and what place wouldn’t want to be named after a beautiful woman?

Greetings from Massachusetts. Eden Nature Park is one of the best in Davao (and also Chemas Island). Been to both places before and heading back again this December, 2007.
