Climbing the steps of the Lourdes Grotto in Baguio
If you happen to visit Baguio City one of these days, don’t forget to include the Lourdes Grotto in your itenerary. Located on a fairly steep hill in the western part of Baguio City, the image of the Lady of Lourdes perches 252 steps above the ground.

Climbing the steps is part of ones sacrifice and offering to the Lady of Lourdes. Tourists and local flock the shrine all year long, even on the rainy seasons. Prayers are offered on lit candles from devotees and travellers seeking blessings, guidance and safe travel.

The shrine was constructed to commemorate the numerous visions of the Virgin Mary by a 14-year old French girl named Bernadette Soubirous from February 11 to July 16, 1858 in the town of Lourdes which is in southwestern France. The visions were declared authentic by the Pope in 1862 and this also led to the authorization of the cult of Our Lady of Lourdes.
