Giant Lantern Festival 2005
Giant Lantern Festival 2005 is held annually at San Fernando, Pampanga. Enumerated below is the schedule for the upcoming event.
October 15 to December 31 - Opening of the Lantern Village along the Olongapo-Gapan Road where people can buy quality and reasonably priced original Fernandino lanterns made by the members of the San Fernando Lantern makers Association. Savor Kapampangan delicacies like the bibingka, puto bungbong, etc. while our cultural groups entertain our guests every weekend with Kapampangan songs and dances.
December 10 - Parade of lanterns made by students from recycled garbage. These will be put on exhibit at the Heritage District until December 31.
December 16 to 24 - Experience an age old tradition that takes place only in Pampanga - the lubenas. A procession of 12 lanterns with similar designs, a cross lantern and the image of the patron saint held for nine nights prior to Christmas Day.
December 17 - Watch no less than 8 giant lanterns measuring at least 18 feet in diameter compete against each other as the lights dance to the tune of Christmas carols.
December 20 and 24 - Giant Lantern Exhibit in Barangay Sindalan and in front of the City Hall of San Fernando.
