According to recent news, wireless internet service is starting to spread among airlines in the United States. Delta and American Airlines have installed it on more than a dozen planes each, and several other carriers are planning to test it.

Although some business flyers are happy about the additional services, a flight attendants’ union has expressed growing apprehensions and concerns over the inevitable technology that terrorists could use their connection to plot or launch attacks. Not only that, there are concerns about how flight attendants will be able to monitor and handle the usage if lets say a customer fails to lower the volume of his earphones while watching YouTube, or if a customer watches porn in the net and the person seated beside him complains… And there is the inescapable fact that one of the last places on earth to get away from it all can now be turned into a mobile office. There are also the concern over fees since wifi on air is not free. On Delta, service is $9.95 for a flight of three hours or less, $12.95 for a longer flight.

I wonder how long it will take for our local carriers to offer wifi on air. Judging by the increasing number of laptop, smartphone toting travelers in the Philippines, I think this inevitable technology will be welcomed here. Cost might be another issue altogether, but for the sake of discussion, how much are you willing to pay to stay online even on air? Would you like to be “reachable” even while traveling? Do you think this would encourage more productivity for business travelers?

There are so many activities that you can do while on a vacation in Boracay. Of the tons of water sports available, from scuba diving to motor bike rides, the one that sparked my interest was kite surfing. Also called kite-skiing or fly-surfing, this sport basically uses a parachute-type kite and 4 lines hooking up the surfer and his surfboard.

The gear, a wipika/flysurfer or the kiteski, are specialized equipment which can be bought between $600 to $1,500 or can be rented for around $90 in Boracay.

However, it seems like this kite-surfing is a little regulated like scuba-diving so you will need to take a 3 and a half day course which costs about $350. A little on the expensive side but it looks too exciting to pass up.

Boracay beach wear has hit Davao! Well, SM Davao that is. On limited display right now are the Kirsten & Corinne Footwear. This shop specializes in Beach Sandals and Mesh bags for frolicking in the beach.

The sandals carry the brand Bagtas, an Ilonggo word meaning “to walk”. They come in your garden variety design but can gravitate further to the obscure or most artistic expression of sandal design evolution.

These products were once featured in ABS-CBN’s morning show and were once used in the ABS-CBN sitcom, Bora. Aside from the sandals and bags on display, there is also a picture stand showing the sandals being used by popular celebrities.

Another great thing about this shop, is that you can have a personalized sandal made if you don’t find any to your liking in the shop. They said that it takes about an hour to make a personalized sandal, so comeback after taking a stroll.

Price ranges from Php 100~350.00 for the sandals, while the different mesh bags come in the Php 200~400 range.

According to the sales people, their main shop is located in Boracay, so if ever you decide to go there and are lacking any suitable footwear, be sure to look them up.
