We found ourselves in a lot with so many clay pots of all shapes and sizes. Some were deep brown, some were the color of rust. Some looked melted and collapsed, some looked trendy with cut-out designs. Broken pieces of burnay line the pathway to a hut.

Vigan Empanada

Having Vigan empanada at the Burgos Plaza was an exciting event. The cooking of this local streetfood delight is a show in itself. The manangs roll the dough into a soft shell, put in the ingredients and cook the empanadas right before your eyes and serve them crispy and fresh off the pan.

It was charming, I agree. The yellow-light lamp posts that illuminate the streets helped bring out the beauty of the old walls, windows and antique doors of the old buildings of Vigan.

I didn’t really have concrete plans of going anywhere for the Holiday weekend. I was thinking of going home to Guimaras but the 4 day-long weekend wasn’t enough and worth it. Plane tickets are skyrocketing and the timing is just not good; besides, I couldn’t get any plane reservations.

And there was I, hoping to get a good rest and stay home to catch up with cleaning my pad and do some reading or maybe play Battle Realms up to sawa. Then, my office phone rang and an old friend asked me if I wanted to go to Vigan for the Holy Week. Vigan, I ask? Well, yeah, I nodded.
