Viva Virgen de Candelaria!: Ang Pyesta ng Birhen ng Candelaria sa Jaro, Iloilo City

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Pebrero 2.

Celebrating Freedom Once More: Kahilwayan Festival of Santa Barbara Iloilo

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

In the conventional history text books, they would mentioned that  when Aguinaldo declared Independence, all of the islands have been independent from the Spanish colonizers. They were dead wrong. After that mock battle between the Americans and the Spaniards in August 1898, the latter transfered their power at Iloilo to make last reforms but they [...]

Suroy-Suroy South Cebu (Dalaguete to Carcar edition)

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Dalaguete: Pueblo Antigo
As the music of the wind plays, passing by the scenic coastal road and lush vegetation of southern Cebu, we passed by the siloy (a black bird endemic to Cebu) town of Alcoy on our way to Dalaguete. The town known for being the Vegetable basket of Cebu and melodic way of speaking Sugbohanon (perhaps [...]

Pictrure: Oslob Church (by Arnold Sancover)
Maybe out of boredom, there is this crazy idea that comes out. It is one of the few places that I’ve never been to in Cebu and I’m already a year here in this island paradise. I’m tired of hearing car honks and breathing smoke in the city streets. I [...]

Sail Away! Riding with the Habagat Waves of Mactan Cebu

Friday, August 17th, 2007

It was definitely my first boat ride in Cebu and my first time meeting some strangers that would become my ultimate barkada in the Queen City. A balikbayan forumer came home and promised a treat that the forumers based in Cebu would never forget. Island hopping from Mactan Island to Olango Island and back and [...]

From Quezon City to Batangas in a Breezy

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

One Saturday just last month, a supposed-to-be 2-hour drive to Batangas turned out to be one of the worst driving experience of my life. I live in a Quezon City apartment near UP and have a job in Eastwood, and every week I go home to Batangas and my family. There wasn’t much fuzz with that a year ago when SLEX was still not under “renovation,” but now, trying to go home at the same time of day as I did before makes me wish for the nth time I didn’t have to work in the city–but of course, I have to. So after that Saturday wherein I was caught up in traffic for 6 hours, I told myself something needs to be done and I just have to modify my travel habits to cope up with the current road situation. Now, after four weeks of experimentation, I might have just found my answers. For those people who has the same route(or at least parts of it) as I do and who wants to retain that pleasant driving experience they had right after learning how to drive and before discovering that the city is not the race track we imagine it to be: read on.

Manila Chinese Cemetery

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Just a few weeks ago, I played the male version of Lara Croft as the Tomb Raider. No, I wasn’t shooting another movie version. But I was doing the real thing. We scoured all the nook and cranny of the Manila Chinese Cemetery for a treasure trove of unsual facts and some more lessons in [...]
