So we have been going out of town this Summer 2013, we still owe you stories from our three days visit to the Ilocos Region. But let us take you first to the Southern part of Luzon, an island province in Region 5. Catanduanes is the landing pad of all typhoons in the Philippines in the 80s. But now, it has transformed into a tourism magnet. That’s why SkyJet Airline now flies three times a week to Virac.
Top tourist destinations includes Pura-ran beach resort, a haven for surfers, Bato Church, Maribina Falls, Batalay Shrine and Caramoan Cam Sur.
During SkyJet’s inaugural flight to Virac, we decided to stay in the island for three days to explore the top tourism destinations including the side trip to Caramoan Island of Camarines Sur.
We stayed at Catanduanes Midtown Inn, a 5-minute drive from the airport and the neartest-to-all destinations in the town of Virac. It is situated in the downtown center, in a very strategic location that lets you walk only to the nearest mall, drug store, and restaurant.
The CMI or Catanduanes Midtown Inn is not a new hotel at all, its has been erected there eleven years ago. During this time, the area is dark, very less commercial establishment are present and it used to be Catanduanes Hotel. CMI is managed by a pretty young businesswoman who grew up locally with a family that runs few other businesses in Virac.
Its not a new hotel, but you will be amazed how neat the rooms are, the staff are courteous and always ready to assist, on very hot summer, room airconditioners are very cold.
With 18 rooms ready to serve all guests and tourists, CMI is a three-storey hotel with the most affordable rate that starts at Php250 and the highest room rate is the executive suite at Php3,500 or about USD85.26. CMI has three standard single rooms, standard deluxe, deluxe twin, deluxe double, royal double, royal twin, family suite and executive suite.
All mentioned rooms are airconditioned, with bathroom hot and cold shower, cable television and intercom. For family and executive suites, they got mini bar, bathub, dining area and safety deposit box. For the transient customers they offer Php250/pax, these are called common rooms.
And for the travel bloggers like me, they have free WiFi that extends up to the hotel rooms, just ask for the password at the counter. Airport transfer is also free. There is no restaurant but like I mentioned, fast foods and restaurants are all 3 to five-minute walk from the hotel.
