If data roaming is your primary problem during a quick 3-day stay in a foreign country HongKong, then there is a company that offers smartphone rental called Handy.
You can choose between Samsung Note and Google Nexus only, that’s what they got currently. With about P360 you get to enjoy mobile internet with your rented phone, plus you you will be provided a spare battery, a charger, a USB link cable. You can also make your rented phone your mobile hotspot enabling your other device to be connected to the Internet. Cool eh!
Where can I avail of that service?
Upon arrival at Hong Kong International airport, you can immediately pick up your rented phone. There are two designated areas in the airport – booth A03 or B12 in the Arrivals Hall at Hong Kong International Airport. Opening hours for booth B12 is from 8am to 11pm, while booth A03 is open 24 hours.
You return your rented smartphone at the same booth after your use.
I forgot to return my rented smartphone, how can I return it?
That’s not a problem, you can mail it back to their office c/o ThinkLabs/Handy Hongkong, 1/F, 101 King’s Road, North Point, Hong Kong. The bad news is the rental meter does not stop until Handy receive their units back.
You can do Skype, Facebook, Twitter, CNN News, BBC News, Google Maps and more. You can download any app in the Google Play while you are renting the phone.
Currently the service allows unlimited calls to countries like Australia, Canada, mainland China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and USA.
There is only one bad news, Philippines is not included in the list yet! Plus, SMS is not included in the rate. They have disabled it intentionally.
