A festival that is unique, and one of a kind. That is Babaylan Festival of Bago City, Negros Occidental. The festival is held every February 19 on the charter day anniversary of the city. Bago, is approximately 20 kilometers south of the province’s capital, Bacolod City.

The festival tells a story of a unique character that has existed way before the colonial period. These people are called the “Babaylan”. They are the rural area’s doctor, herbalist, priest, and a leader all rolled into one.

This year, the organizers of the Babaylan Festival has decided, for the first time, to showcase their unique festivity on a grander scale. They will be joining this year’s Aliwan Fiesta 2006. As one of the organizers said, they are not after the 1 Million Peso grand prize. What they want is just to present to the Filipino people a festival that is unique, and one of a kind. A festival they call “The Babaylan Festival”.

    ulihi na kamo sa ilonggo kn sa festival lng. gaumpisa pa lng kmo gapabalik na cla. kng maalala mo last year ginagaya na ng ibang festival pero walang wala sa orihinal. kaya kng ako sa inyo tumahimik nalang ang nagmamayabang at manood dahil kung ano pinakikita dito sa aliwan my mga magaganda pa doon na mga tribu. sample pa lang yan ika nga. kun g gusto nyo ma witness ang sinasabi ko, manood kayo mismo sa iloilo ng festival nila every 3rd week of january at makita nyo.

    Correction! The mother of all festivals is Ati-atihan ng kalibo kasi dun nagsimula lahat!More than 400 years ng sinicelebrate and ati-atihan. Dinagyang festival is much more older than sinulog, 39 years na ang dinagyang! please wag magmayabang!

    beside d importante street dancing sa Sinulog ng taga Cebu,
    importante kasi sa karamihan sa Sinulog yong ritual…
    hindi na ata kailangan pang mamuhunan ng taga Cebu sa mga festival… be in your mind na Sinulog festival is the mother of all festival in the Philippines at 26 years na yon compare sa Aliwan naka ilang taon lang… pero masaya parin at proud kami na sasali sa ALIWAN FESTIVAL…

    nakita ko na rin ang tribu sa sinulog pasensya na at hindi ako nagandahan, ang bet ko ngayon ay ang iloilo at tacloban tribe, abangan u ang ilonganon tribe, at surprise ang tunay na babaylan ng bago city. its a different kind of festival

    at sa tingin ko ang tribu ng iloilo ang mananalo dahil sa magandang sayaw at tugtog may variation ika nga.
