For those of you who want to enjoy fishing in Davao City without the hassle of getting on a boat, waking up early to catch the fish on their feeding cycle, or having to cast one’s reel on the side of a bridge, then Campo Agua might just be the place for you.

It’s a 30 min drive from the heart of the city at Sirawan Toril District which is a 5 min drive past the Toril town proper. Located in a converted fishpond, it has more than just pools teeming with St. Peter’s Fish (Tilapia) to amuse weekend fishermen. The place also boasts of a coolly designed swimming pool with a playground at it’s center.

You don’t have to have an expensive reel and tackle to enjoy fishing there as they can easily loan you a bamboo pole with nylon, a floater and a hook. If you don’t have bait with you, just ask one of the boys there to get you some worms (Although, the Campo Agua locals say that baby frogs are better bait if one wants to catch bigger fish.) If you don’t like what you have caught, be sure to throw it back in so that you can have the chance to catch it again. Once you are satisfied with the size of what you have caught, put it in the green mesh bag that they will issue you in the entrance. The mesh bag has a string on the end, this is so that you can dip it in the fishpond and keep your catch alive while you are still fishing for more.

For current rates. Entrance is Php 60, which gives you non-exclusive use of the pool and the huts. If all you want to do is fish, then no entrance is charged. Just have your catch weighed in at the store. The going rate right now is Php 90/kg (expensive? well fishing doesn’t get any easier and fish doesn’t come any fresher than this *snicker*) There is also a dining area available so that you can have them cook your catch if don’t intend to bring it home with you.
