Why is the Christmas season a “peak season” for travelling, ergo, higher hotel and travel package rates? One reason, especially for locals, is that this is the only time of the year that employees get a fairly long break from work (unless you’re a teacher, of course, when you would have teacher’s leave during semestral breaks). The week spanning between Christmas and New Year is a great time to go visit relatives, or go for out-of-town trips.
But, the prices can be daunting. For example, those planning to go to Boracay anytime from Dec 22 and the New Year should prepare themselves for rates that are a couple of thousands more than what it would have paid during low season. I just received my TravelSmart newsletter per email and found out that a lot of Boracay resorts are offering “Christmas Promos”. However, a 3D/2N stay at Willy’s Beach Resort, for example costs P9,285 (twin accommodation), compared to P5,260 during normal season, which even includes breakfast. Ouch, that’s about 40% more expensive!
Oh well, I don’t know about you, but I think Christmas is better spent at home, exploring local jaunts and enjoying the season reconnecting with the rest of the family over the remains of the noche buena. Afterall, this is probably the only chance to get a reprieve from the daily grind…
Where will YOU be this Christmas break?
